The Merry Marthas' group and also the church auxiliary hosted a quilt display and desserts event on Sept. 19 at the Windsor United Baptist Church.
About 80 people attended the display.
The Red Hat group from Mount Uniacke were there, along with local artist Audrey-Goucher Millett who had two full-size hand-painted quilts on display – one depicting lighthouses, the other scenes of Nova Scotia.
Several quilts dated back to the 1930's, some with sugar bags as backing. Of the 118 quilts displayed, most were full-size, but others included crib quilts and decorative wall hangings by local artisans. Also on display were some quilted placemat sets.
Choir director Dale Mackenzie on piano and organist Thelma Shaw also played favorite hymns.
A dessert lunch, featuring home made treats provided by the ladies of the Merry Marthas, was also a popular addition to the event.
