Christmas Angels is gearing up for another exciting year in Hants County. Its various programs help to brighten the lives of needy children at Christmas time.

The 33rd annual Christmas Angel Show will take place December 6, from noon until 8 p.m. Local school choirs and bands will join local musicians and other community talent to perform throughout the day. This year, Angels is thrilled to have Hants County’s own Grammy nominee, J.D. Clarke. Pledge lines will be open at 798-5050 for anyone to call in and make a donation and the famous souwester will be also be auctioned off. Our honorary chairman this year is Rev. Bill Gibson and Erin Sullivan, the morning host from1450 CFAB, will be the emcee.

To warm up for the big show, there is a Christmas Angels benefit concert at the Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre in Windsor November 29 at 7 p.m. Jason C. & Company, Emerald Tide and Swingology will be there to entertain.

If you would like to purchase a gift for a child, the Tree of Hope Program is on once again. Various banks in Hantsport and Windsor as well as select businesses in Mt. Uniacke hang Christmas Angel tags on their Christmas trees, and the public can pick a tag and purchase the gift described on it. This program exists for children 12 and under and is a fantastic way to ensure a merrier Christmas for a young child.

The Christmas Wishbook program is for extremely needy families. It matches a donor or group with a family and provides that family with Christmas dinner and gifts. This is a great avenue to ensure the Christmas experience for a struggling family.

Paper angels are flying in businesses across Hants County. They cost $1 and the proceeds go towards the Christmas Angels. These angels are available for the month of November and we encourage everyone to purchase one. A plaque is presented to the outlet that sells the most and the race is already heating up.

The Christmas Angels Program is operated by Family and Children’s Services of Hants County. It takes hundreds of volunteers, performers and the support from our media sponsors, EastLink TV and 1450 CFAB, to make the annual show a reality. If you are interested in becoming involved in any of these programs or volunteering, please contact the Christmas Angels coordinator at 798-6859. Many children will have a happier Christmas because of the generosity of the people in Hants County! ~submitted
