Apple Blossom Festival organizers are particularly in the mood for this week’s Valley celebrations.

“The experts said the blossoms were in peak bloom over the weekend, and there will be later varieties and longer blossoms farther down the Valley to last through the festival weekend,” festival co-president Cathy Reid says.

“I just checked the weather and it looks good!”

As far as family fun and traditional festival events, “everything is ready.

“Great, it all looks good, no problems on the horizon!”

Reid and co-president Sally Swanburg Wallace have been involved in the festival for seven years and, in the past year, teamed up on presidential duties.

“All the hard work in the last few years, moving from tradition to fun and raising expectations - we’re happy with the line-up and there’s a really good feeling of what festival will be this year.”

Opening ceremonies for the 78th festival, “Blossomed Here, Enjoyed Everywhere,” are in Digby May 27. Then it’s an action-packed schedule with the favourites - the children’s and grand street parades, the fair, the tea and coronation, the free Friday night concert heading into the fireworks- and some new events.

“We’re really excited with the Agri-Fun event at the arena (in Kentville),” Reid says. “It gives us a connection with the past and our agricultural fairs and traditions and all the old games of chance; and with the new - the extreme zone, the wall climbing.... It will be a good concentration of activities in the downtown - and fun!”

Calls at the Apple Blossom office are coming in as festival goers plan their weekend, and web hits are up as people check for event details, Reid says. There’s also an entire month of Applelicious food and farm tours to take in.
