Hants West MLA Chuck Porter has stepped into the position of Progressive Conservative government caucus chair.
Porter replaces Pictou Centre MLA Pat Dunn, who has moved up to become Health Promotion and Protection Minister and Volunteerism Minister.
Porter will also continue in his role as deputy house leader.
“I feel very fortunate to have someone of Mr. Porter’s ability filling this leadership role in our caucus,” Premier Rodney MacDonald said at the Wednesday, Jan. 7, announcement. “He will bring new energy and enhance our team as we continue to move forward and build a stronger Nova Scotia.”
Porter says his new role is an opportunity to work with Progressive Conservative members of the Legislature from across the province and to strengthen the caucus team.
“We have a tremendous amount of experience and talent in our caucus and cabinet and I look forward to this new leadership role,” Porter said.
Porter also congratulated his caucus colleagues who changed portfolios during the Jan. 7 cabinet shuffle.
“Outgoing caucus chair Pat Dunn will be a strong addition to cabinet and I look forward to working with him in that capacity in the near future,” Porter said.
Neighbouring Kings South MLA David Morse traded his Natural Resources portfolio to become Environment Minister.
