Residents of Mill Section along Route 14 were on evacuation alert April 4, as the Avon River threatened to spill over the roadway and flood the nearby homes following heavy rains during the night.

West Hants Warden Richard Dauphinee and Windsor Mayor Paul Beazley were forced to make a hurried exit from the annual Windsor Princess Tea that afternoon to attend an emergency REMO meeting in Hantsport.

Officials met with emergency responders to assess the flooding situations in the region, while Nova Scotia Power crews battled to keep the Avon #2 hydro dam in Mill Section under control as the RCMP monitored rising water levels along the Chester Rd.
