Hurricane Bill arrived in the region Sunday with high wind and plenty of rain that caused power outages in a number of areas.
Winds in the Kentville area according to Environment Canada reached a high of 35 kilometres per hour at around 2 p.m. and power was out in several neighbourhoods through the midday and early afternoon.
The Weather Network reported at 4 p.m. ADT that Greenwood had received 28 mm of rain. An additional 10-15 mm is expected through Sunday evening and into Monday afternoon.
Nova Scotia Power reported on its website that weather-related outages, mostly caused by trees coming into contact with power lines, began to be reported late Sunday morning. Line crews, tree trimming crews and damage assessment teams worked to restore power as outages occur.
Areas affected included (as of 6:57 p.m. Sunday):
Canning, Habitant, Kingsport, Medford, Delhaven, Pereau, Woodside, Blomidon, Scott's Bay, Bennet's Bay, Ross Creek and adjacent side streets. As of 1:19 p.m., Aug. 23, NSP reported 321 customers were without power, with outages caused by high winds and rain. Estimated restoration time was 11:30 p.m., Aug. 23.
Centreville, Billtown, Steam Mill Village, Glenmont, Baxter's Harbour, Lakeville, Hall's Harbour, Sheffield Mills and surrounding areas. As of 4:35 p.m., Aug.23, 132 customers were without power, caused by high winds and rain. Estimated restoration time was 11:30 p.m., Aug. 23.
In Hants County, areas affected included (as of 6:57 p.m. Sunday):
Falmouth, Nesbitt St., Windsor Waterfront area, Upper Falmouth, Dyke Rd., Mines Rd., Eldridge Rd. and Town Road, including adjacent side streets. As of 6:23 p.m., Aug.23, 1,130 customers were without power, with outages caused by high winds and rain. Estimated restoration time was 11:30 p.m., Aug. 23.
