Windsor RCMP is investigating after a suspicious blaze damaged the Kennetcook fire hall.
Just after 7 a.m. November 27, Windsor District RCMP received a 911 call reporting a vehicle parked next to the fire hall in Kennetcook was on fire. The 1999 blue Chevrolet Cavalier had been reported stolen from highway 231 in Riverside Corner at 5:41 a.m.
Kennetcook deputy fire chief Erick Russell said he witnessed a car on fire when he arrived on the scene and noticed the blaze starting to engulf the hall’s truck bay. “There was not that much time to think,” Russell says. “I had to get the fire out.”
There was no damage to the trucks, he says. “It will just be more work for us … it is kind of depressing; but, you just have to get up and keep going. I think we will bounce back.”
“We’re now looking for a temporary place for the trucks, but I think I have got that under control too,” Russell adds. “I’d like to thank everyone who was here for help this morning. In the community, the fire hall in Kennetcook is quite a central thing.”
Anyone with information on the person(s) responsible are asked to contact Windsor District RCMP at 798-2207; or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477; or submit a secure web tip at crimestoppers.ns.ca.
