A Hants County native has made the cut for Big Brother Canada.

Emmett Blois, a 25-year-old dairy farmer from Gore, is one of three Nova Scotians that will be living in the Big Brother house, competing for the $100,000 grand prize, a $25,000 gift card to The Brick and a new Chevrolet Trax.

Emmett, who is unavailable for an interview until he leaves the house, is described as an “adorable and innocent East Coast farm boy with a strong work ethic and a heart of gold” in a press release Shaw Communications Inc. issued Feb. 20 to introduce the inaugural cast of Big Brother Canada.

“Each of the 15 selected houseguests are bringing something special to the show whether that be through a strong personality, wacky sense of humour or competitive nature,” said John Brunton, chairperson and CEO of Insight Production Company Ltd., in the press release. “With this many big personalities living together under one roof, all with their eyes on the prize, things are bound to get a little crazy!”

He was one of 10,000 people to audition, the release says.

His older brother, Michael Blois, convinced him to audition for the television show that sticks complete strangers in confined living quarters, and presents them with a series of psychological and physical challenges designed to push them to their limits while cameras are rolling 24/7.

But, it wasn’t a tough sell.

“I remember I was in a coffee shop one day and I saw it in the Metro and I just knew he should apply for it,” said Michael in a phone interview. “It wasn’t too hard to get him to go.”

He says his younger brother has the right personality to win over the houseguests, and the TV audience.

“He’s hard working. He’s funny. The girls love him,” said Michael, with a laugh.

“He’s a very competitive person... I know he’s in this to go all the way.”

In Emmett’s online profile, he says that the strategic aspect of the game — finding a way to fly under the radar and avoid getting voted out of the house — may be a challenge.

“I’m a competitive person but I’ve never thrown a competition. I don’t think I’ll be able to get out of doing that in the house,” he said.

But he has a plan that may gain him a few allies.

“I’ll probably flirt a little. I’m really good at that, and I like the ladies who play hard to get. If you don’t get turned down the first time you try, you’re not having fun.”

And, if batting his eyelashes doesn’t work, he’ll resort to telling tales about his humble lifestyle to avoid getting evicted.

“I’ll definitely tell them that I’m a dairy farmer. Dairy farmers are the most trustworthy people,” the question and answer-styled profile reads.

His family is excited to get together and watch the show.

“We have quite a bit of family all across Canada and even in the States too so I think everyone is going to be glued to the TV,” said Michael.

Aside from Michael, Emmett has two other bothers — Beau, who is also older, and Willem, who is younger. His parents are Barron and Debbie Blois.

“Everyone is extremely excited for him to be going on the show; a little bit nervous at the same time. But, he’s a very confident boy and I think this is right up his alley,” Michael said.

Emmett will join fellow bluenosers Jillian MacLaughlin, a teacher from New Glasgow, and Andrew Monaghan, an insurance sales trainer in Halifax, in the Big Brother house.

Big Brother Canada premieres Feb. 27 on Slice. It will air Wednesdays at 10 p.m., Thursdays at 11 p.m. and Sundays at 10 p.m.
