No Halloween hijinks here

High school students will “Trick or Treat” for a worthy cause this All-Hallows Eve.

Local students aren't planning any mischief for this Halloween, but they do hope to raid a few pantries Oct. 31.

Students from Avon View High School and Kings-Edgehill will pair up in fun costumes that evening and go door-to-door collecting for the local food bank.

It's a unique approach to Halloween and KES student Malcolm McCulloch says the “Trick or Treat” food drive is a positive and cooperative initiative he hopes will dispel youth stereotypes. “All too often people dread what youth might be up to during Halloween. We thought this was a great opportunity for the youth in our community to work together to give back to our home (or home-away-from-home) town.”

He and AVH student Megan MacCormack-Mason are the brains behind the operation and plan to get as many students as possible together to help fill those food bank stores. “We won't be asking for any treats, but rather donations to the food bank.”

So this Halloween, plan to have some non-perishable food items on hand for the older ghost and goblins knocking at your door. - Submitted
