Hantsport Baptist church has had some fun lately raising funds for a worthy cause.

In order to have summer events that attract school-aged kids, organizations are feeling the pinch of the present economy. We need money to have effective programming.

Youth are a priority at Hantsport Baptist. How do we maintain contact with the youth who have been a part of our fall to spring programs?

Here is how one unfortunate event turned into a time of friendly competition and provided needed funds for Summer Ministry Programs. When Pastor Daniel Jamer had shoulder surgery in the fall of 2008, he was unable to shave. As a result, he came to wear a fashionable beard and mustache.

To shave or not to shave! Every Sunday, for a month, people placed their “vote” with cold cash. It was a real hoot!

There was quite a rivalry. The “Shave” group won the contest and on April 19, after the regular morning worship service, Mary Robarts, a local hairdresser, did the honor of removing Pastor Dan’s facial hair.

Chocolate bar campaign, penny auction

A chocolate bar campaign began April 25 with youth group members selling at three locations in town. Bars were made available to the shift workers at CKF.

A penny auction was held at the church May 2. This was the first time we have organized such an event. With over 150 items to bid on, it was a huge success.

A nod of appreciation goes to the many people, businesses and organizations that donated items, time and energy to the ‘fun’draising.

We at Hantsport Baptist are so pleased that Kristen Eaton, a third-year Acadia Divinity Student and Youth Group Leader, could be hired by the church to plan, organize and lead the many programs that are being offered to children of our community this summer.

A Daily Vacation Bible School (Power Lab) will happen in the afternoons of July 27-31. Cookie Club will meet at July 2, 8 and 22 as well as Aug. 12 and 22. This is for children aged 5-10 and will cost $1 per child per day.

Youth Group for teens will continue through the summer as well and there are still more things happening!

Please read the church sign or call Kristen at the church (684-9265) for more information.
