OPEN THE TRUNK STORY ENDINGS 2010

The trunk sat in the attic for hundreds of years; cob webs covered all but a corner of the battered brown box. It’s straps were dry and cracked and the buckles rusted to a reddish brown. No one came to the corner of the attic. Empty, that’s what most thought. “ That roof needs boards replaced,” the carpenter told the new owner. As the boards were pulled from the rafters, light flooded the dark corner.

The wind gently blew the cobwebs from the top of the dusty truck. “ Wonder what’s in that ?”

The owner thought. He dusted it off and carried it to the basement.

Twenty years later a new owner spied the old trunk. “Wonder what’s in that, I’ll take it up to the attic, might get damp down here.”

Here are the endings….

Hailee Havenga Age 10 Bridgetown

Up in the attic it sat for another twenty years. But this time a six year old girl came up to the attic and saw it in the corner. “Daddy, Daddy, come look at what I found!” she yelled

When he reached the doorway he stopped dead in his tracks. “what is it Dad?” said the girl.

Well, would you look at that” said the Dad. “That, that is my great grandfathers trunk.” He finished. “Open it, Daddy” she said with anticipation. She would “Okay.” He said nervously. “Here it goes.” The man wouldn’t have known it was his great grand father trunk, if it didn’t have his grandfathers special handwriting on the top right hand corner of the trunk. He unlatched the latches and wiped off the top. Inside of the trunk contained a bunch of old photos from the early 1800’s. “Daddy, why are all these pictures black and white?” “Because Sara, these pictures were taken over 200 years ago, and pictures had no colour then.”

He proceeded to tell Sara stories about her great, great grandfather and hoped she would have loved the stories about him as much as he loved his grandfather.

Then 20 years later they were going to demolish the house, but first they had to gut it out. The last thing they pulled out was the brown trunk. The person that pulled it out was named Adrian. He wanted to keep the trunk. He wanted to see what was in it. When he got home he tried to open it but he couldn’t. A couple of years later he tried again, but failed. The next time the same things happened. Again and again, he couldn’t open it.

When he was laying on his death bed, he said to his grandson, “I want you to have my trunk. I believe it can do magical things, but remember now, take care of it.” “I will, pop” said the little boy who was named Adrian, after his grandfather.

When Adrian grew up. He built a house on the same place the trunk came from. When Adrian tried to open it, it worked! He looked into it and saw…….the future!

He saw transporters, flying cars, floating houses, and more!

He tried to step in it and when he did he was in another demention! When he looked around he saw someone robbing a bank. He tried to stop him, but he was sucked into the attic of his new house. A couple of years later, the same robber happened. Then he figured something out. “If I go into that box, I could see all the bad things and then I can prevent them from happening! I could be known as Future Guy!” From then on he kept saving the world from destruction.

As he walked up to the attic he noticed that the roof boards looked good as new. He walked carefully trying not to step on loose boards, over to an empty corner. He smiled but at the same time he was curious. He wondered what could be in the chest. Then he walked over to it and blew off all of the dust .When he opened it there was a loud creaking sound and bits of old rust were coming off. He peered inside. There were two blankets that had been stitched up. They were orange and black. He unfolded the blankets and a diary fell out. He opened the diary to the first page. The date was written January 21, 1845. Then he flipped to the back and that date was September 30, 1931. Wow, long time ago! He dug deeper and pulled out an old photo album. He opened it up; there it was a black and white photo. There stood a family. They were all wearing caps. The man was wearing a short coat and the women and children wore long ones. In the background there was a market with an old bloodhound dog lying on the front porch. In front of the market was a horse and carriage. There was also an old heart shaped gold locket with designs on it. Inside was a picture of the woman from the photo album. At the very bottom of the trunk were old postage stamps stuck to the bottom. As he closed the trunk he heard a clatter on the floor. It was a key. But what did it unlock? As he picked up the key he noticed the initials R.J.A.. So he put everything back where it was and slowly closed the trunk. As he walked away, he could not help wondering what did that key unlock?

Ten years later John went up to the attic with a small box of odds and ends, he walked across the wooden floor “Creek, creek” and shoved the box into the corner. With the flashlight beaming across the room he spotted the trunk, it’s leather straps almost gone from mice nibbling on it and about a hundred spider webs spun across it’s back. Walking slowly his eyes still punched on the reddish brown box, the boards creeking as he walked until he knelt down in front of it, lovely he brushed off the spider webs and picked it up.

When John came down stairs he set the box up on the table in front of little five year old Jesse and went to get a damp cloth. Jesse starred with amazement at the trunk. Oh how much he wanted to open that truck. Too curious to leave it alone he went to the box and pushed with all his might but it didn’t open it just flipped over, but then his little eyes spotted something strapped onto the box so he jammed his finger in it and out popped a key. In a rush he plunged the key into the key hole and the trunk popped open.

Jesse couldn’t believe his eyes in the truck was a knight armour, Jesse put the knight helmet on his head and it magically fit to his head size. Instantly he was in an unfamiliar place filled with unusual sounds he stood perfectly still. In the midst of all the unusal sounds he hears a familiar voice. “Jesse can you give me a hand?” Quickly he lifted the helmet from his head and he was again in his kitchen where he threw the helmet in the trunk and slams it shut, locks it. He ran down the hallway to the sound of his dad’s voice still calling. “I’m coming”. Forgetting he still held the key it slipped from his hand and dropped to the floor “boom” He collapsed to the floor,

His little hands reaching for the key pushed it into the vent, his heart beating rapidly he pulled off the vent cover and reaches down as far as his hand would reach. But he felt nothing it was lost! He slowly stood head held low he slowly walked to his Dad.

Depressed by the thought of moving one more time always put Courtney in a bad mood, she would have to find new friends, a new high school and summer job. Not bothering to check out the new place she carried in the boxes as told. Some boxes had already been place in the basement were she sat some more.

Shuffling her feet across the floor she kicked something with her toe, she looked down to see a shiny key. Wonder what this is for. And put it in her pocket.

The owner picked up the trunk. And took it up to the attic he sat it in the corner. He stared at it. Then he said “I wonder what’s inside?” He opened it, inside was………

a tiny letter and a small metal cube. He picked up the letter and the cube he looked at the letter.0n the front of the letter it said Time Machine instructions! He opened the instructions .But he said “I’m too smart to read the instructions I know how to work a time machine! Puff like duh.” But he wasn’t so smart after all! “I’ll just press this big RED button!!!!” He said .Bad idea! He pressed the button .Then there was a flash of lightning brighter then a ball of fire! And then suddenly he was in the middle of no were! “Hi!” “AHHHH!!!!!” who are you? “I’m Bob I was the owner of the house 20 years ago that you came from.” “I’m Nick”. Well I “AHHH!!!! Dinosaur!” “What?”

AHHH!!!!

The End

Brianna Hamilton Grade 6 Somerset and District Elementary School When he was walking up the stairs the trunk started shaking violently, and out of the blue, the trunk flew out of the owner’s arms, then there was a blinding flash of light and it was gone! A few hours later the owner went back to the basement to see if he was just imagining things. When he walked around the corner of the basement, he saw two eyes peering out at him. Then a deep voice, coming from where the trunk had been just hours earlier asked “Are you David?” The owner, who just happened to be David, trembled with fear and astonishment. The voice asked again but louder and more threatening “Are you David?!” “Yes,” David replied nervously. “Good. Come over here and open me.” “Open you?” “Yes! OPEN ME!! I’m a trunk!!” the voice replied sounding annoyed. “OK, I’m coming.” David walked slowly over towards the voice. He stopped as he approched the voice. David asked “Where do I open you?” “Do you see my eyes?’ “Yes.” “Feel between them and you will find a latch. Lift the latch and look inside.” David hesitated, but walked over and felt between the eyes. He found the latch and flipped it open. He looked inside. Then all of a sudden there was a tornado coming from the trunk, it sucked him up, and David was gone.

The new owner of the house slowly walked toward the old trunk and took

hold of the old leather handle. As the owner picked up the trunk he

could feel the black leather settle in his hands. ?How old could this trunk be?? ?How long has it been down here?? He thought. ?And it’s so heavy.? ?What could be in it??

The owner put the trunk down and walked around to the side of the trunk.

He wiped the cob webs and dust of a thin strip of medal pined to the

trunk, it said?

Who ever dares to open this trunk may, but if you do you just might go

through the consequences of who had this trunk before you, and let me

tell you I knew what was in that trunk, I invented it. The owner looked strangely at the writing on the trunk, as if he was

hypnotized. He shook his head to snap out of it and stood up beside

the trunk. ?I need to find out what is in that trunk.? He thought.

The owner took hold of the handle in front of the trunk and pulled upon it.

The cover didn?t budge. He looked at the latch on the trunk, it had a

lock on it and it was locked of course. ?There must be key here

somewhere.?

The owner went over to the spot were he first found the trunk and

looked all around he couldn?t find anywhere, when just by a glimpse of

his eye dangling in the cob webs was the key to the trunk. The owner

grabbed it and ran over to the trunk, put the key in the slot and

turned it. The latch was now opened and the owner could open it. He

took hold of the handle again pulled up once again it opened very

slowly and light shone out of it. ?What could it be?? He said. Gold?

Silver? Who knows? All he knew was he could be rich.

He opened it as fast as he could and then, zoom, he had disappeared

in to the box and was never seen again.

Weeks past, most of the days were rainy, no one knew any thing that

happened, but to some people, this would always be a mystery. Ha, ha,

ha, ha!!!!!!!!

The man walked up the creaky stairs staring at the trunk wondering what might be in there. When he reached the attic, he placed the trunk on an incredibly dusty table with a chair next to it. “Okay let’s see what’s in there,” He pulled up the fabric chair and tried to open it. He sighed, “It’s locked!” he pushed back the chair in rage, “I’m so unlucky!” He stomped down the stairs finding his baby girl hitting his laptop, “Cindy! No!” He picked up the three year old and set her in the high chair. He, still in rage pulled out his chair to sit at the table. Eventually the mom came to the waxed dinner table. After dinner the mom named Marian called to him, “Matthew! Go clean up your daughter while I clean the dishes!” So he went to the toddler and struggled to pick her up. While he carried her to the Bathroom something was poking him. Then he reached the Bathroom and set down Cindy. When he helped her get ready for a bath, he looked through the abandoned overalls. Then he discovered the harsh poke. He pulled it out and examined it. It looked like a key, felt like a key but where to? “Cindy what were you doing with this?” He asked in a childish tone, “To hit laptop !” She smiled the cutest smile in the world, “To have fun!” “Where did you find it?” he said, Very curious now. “The Basement!” she shouted reaching for the key, Mathew shook his head and turned off the tap to the bath tub and lifted the bare body and gave her a nice warm bath. In about a half an hour he finally finished. Cindy’s pruned body started to sleep. Marian was watching the news and Matthew was thinking with a hint of pacing. “What is in the basement that needs a key...”He thought then sat down on the stairs, “The trunk! It needs a key... let’s hope it’s it!” He sprinted up two flights of stairs then reached the attic stairs; He breathed heavily then walked up the last flight of stairs that were particularly steep. He came upon the attic door. He opened the door with a slight creek. He walked to the trunk pulled out the dusty but comfy chair, “Okay let’s see if it works.” He inserted the key into the lock, rotated it and heard a big Click! He smiled, “It works!” He opened the trunk and found several things. But before he could check them out his daughter knocked on the door, “Who’s there!” “Daddy I can’t sleep.” Sigh. He hesitated then decided, It can wait and picked up the cute figure. “What’s the trouble?” he said feeling tired for himself. “I dunno. I can’t sleep!” sigh, again. He jogged to the crib and set down the girl, “What book?” Matt asked extremely tired now. The girl picked Sally and the moon. After the story was over Matthew was sound asleep. Cindy crawled out of the crib and headed to the attic. The door creaked loudly and Cindy, hoping nobody heard her walked into the dark room. When the ground vibrated the lights turned on. She smiled. She searched for the trunk. Then she noticed the table it had a figure on it... The trunk! She ran to the trunk with her night gown following behind her. It was open but nothing moved, not even the tissue paper, the secret was safe. She lifted the tissue paper and found an envelope. She opened it. Cindy couldn’t read so there’s a button for it to read out loud: “Cindy you have to keep them a secret.” A gruff voice spoke out, “Dr. McDonald has made a Portal to the past so he can destroy the past and you have to keep the password with the engine. Dr. McDonald as you know is an evil scientist from the future. If you keep this password in the past he cannot use it because he does not remember it so here.” A password on a piece of paper. Cindy was a special one just like one family member from every family who lived there before, there’re special names for them FUTURE KEEPERS. It was only the youngest member of the family. Cindy whirled her chair to check if someone was watching her. All she saw was pitch black but she heard someone or something. CREEK, CRACK, CREEK CREEK! Cindy shuffled the envelope into place by the engine and shut the trunk. CREEK. Then the door smacked open. He looked like a scientist but whom? “You, Cindy?” the scientist asked in anger, Cindy nodded. The scientist shuffled past her and took the trunk, “I get back what I made!” Then he faded away. “He must have been ...DR.MCDONALD!” Cindy thought hoping it was a dream, “I betrayed us I...”Something interrupted her thoughts. A big boom came out of nowhere then another after another. “How could he do it so fast?” Cindy started to cry, she was scared. No traumatized. Then a figure showed up, “He-llo, Hello?” A gruff man started walking to her, “How did he get to you? He did not remember the password.” The man sounded just like... the leader who always sent letters. “Cindy, you have to tell me what is in the trunk!” His voice sounded serious, “There was the password, Portal engine 344, Portal battery 567, your letters, secrets about the future books.” Cindy got interrupted by the man known as Leader Canine. “What books?” Cindy wondered shouldn’t he know this stuff? “Umm...” Cindy took a deep breath and tried to remember, “Future goes green, uhh... space is related, Unicorns reunite, no war and fighting is a no no! And the rest of the stuff is,” Cindy breathed again, “Rocket fuel, Lasers, and that!” Cindy stopped to point out the window “That!” Then an envelope fell to the ground and leader Canine vanished. Why did he leave? Then came footsteps and creak... Mom and Matthew. Uh oh! It’s bad seeing your child in the attic all alone with and envelope. Cindy gathered the envelope and noticed they were crying, “Cindy, Let’s go.” Marian whined, “Come on.” Once Marian stopped carrying Cindy they came upon the basement. Cindy searched for an excuse to go to the bathroom without Marian, “Mommy today I want to potty by myself.” Marian nodded and let her go. Cindy tore the envelope open and pushed the button that spoke, “Use what you know.” Cindy frowned, what is that suppose to mean? Wait, How to act-(something’ like that ) the trunk! Then she remembered she forgot to say the instruction manual... but she could picture it said: How to activate (That`s it) The trunk... “Cindy! You okay?” BOOM!

Cindy mumbled under her breath “Umm...” the yelled, “Yeah!” Any ways...if you want to activate the trunk to save the past if it gets invaded say... “sorry sari, sorry birds, sorry mammals sorry lizards sorry trunk.”

Cindy yelled out, “sorry sari, sorry birds, sorry mammals, sorry lizards, sorry trunk.” Then came a flash of light, Dr.McDonald teleports. Everything started over again in her head, like when they first moved in till now, then the vision was over. She was still in the bathroom, But no one knew about the trunk, well Dr.McDonald didn’t, so he was the only one who knew , but he shouldn’t. Cindy grew older, but still was the Future keeper. She had 3 children who were wonderful; well everything was wonderful because everyone still didn’t know about the trunk. But as she got older and older, the future came more familiar. Except Dr. McDonald didn’t do anything evil (Well Cindy did steal all the important things to the machines...) The trunk saved the world.

Another 20 years later another owner with a black beard and wrinkles all over him named Ron found the trunk and was very curious. He bent over very careful not to pull anything in his back wiped the dust off the trunk and picked it up. Then sat down on an old box he did not have one clue what was in it and studied the trunk very carefully. He saw lots of cracks in the trunk then he saw the faintest print of ink he pulled out his old glasses that he hadn’t used in a while for the fact hadn’t had to read in a while. Quikly dusted them off, put them on and squinted carefully at the printed words on the trunk. After a couple of minutes of siting there he noticed that the name on the trunk was his great aunts Sydney Flower. His eyes swelled up and he started to cry his aunt was like his best friend. She had died when he was 9 years old. But he forsed himself to keep going. He carefully opened the latch the medal creaked as he did so. Then he quickly and so gently pulled open the top of the trunk, to find what he thought was a book he quickly wiped the dust off of what he thought was a book. He opened the book to find that it was a scrap book. His eyes swelled up again as he flipped through the pages to find only pictures of him and his aunt Sydney Flower. After he thought the pages would not stop going on and on he came to the last page. It was all blank except for the faded print luckily he still had his glasses on he squinted at the faded print. He sat there for a couple of minutes. Then read it.

Dear Ron,

If you are reading this please forgive me not for giving this to you. For im in a hospital bed/my death bed. If you are reading this keep it for yourself. I meant to give this to you but then I found out I was going to die. Ron’s eyes swelled up again he cried all morning and afternoon. The tears made sound as they leaked through the wooden floor. His wife was worried she heard him crying and she quickly ran up the carpeted stairs. Ron filled her in on everything that had happened. After he tolled her everything. Her eyes started to swell up too. Ron leaned his head on her shoulder. They sat there all night. In the morning he got up and yawned and stretched his legs. Then quickly noticed that he not in his own bed he was in the attic, he thought why am I in the attic. A couple of seconds later he remembered everything that had happened yesterday. He picked up the scrap book and put it in the trunk. When he shut the trunk the hinges made a high squeaking sound. Ron bent down picked up the trunk. Ron thought a good place to put it would be under his bed. A couple years, later he forgot about it and decided to go to the seniors home and no one saw the trunk again.

Four years later the owner’s son went up the old rickety stairs to the attic. In the corner he noticed the old rusty brown trunk, “hey dad, what’s in this trunk”? As he waited for his dad he wondered what could be in the trunk. He thought it might have been toys but when his dad came up they both opened it together and were both very surprised to see that it was filled with old coins that were once his great grandfathers!

Up in the attic the owner got so curious he opened the trunk. Inside was an old stained book with the name George Kaiser on the red cover. He opened it. When he opened it,

it started to sparkle then a page full of words appeared in the book.

The page said,

SPELLS 1. hocuspocus

2. alakazam

3. pretso The owner closed the book and took it down to his bedroom and hid the book.

The new owner carried it up the stairs to the attic and set it down. He couldn’t resist, so he opened it up, suddenly a light shone out of the chest almost blinding the man then it sucked him in. No one every saw that man again.

20 years later someone new bought the house and after he finished moving in his stuff he decided to go up to the attic. There he found the chest still rusted and full of cobwebs, “I wonder what’s in there?” he thought to himself. “It won’t do any good up here in the attic.”

The owner picked it up and took it into the living. When he set it down he reached to open it when the door bell rang, it was his friend Billy, “Hey Billy,” said the owner, “Come in, I just found a chest up in the attic and was about to open it when the doorbell rang. Do you want to see what is inside as well?” “Sure,” replied Billy.

Then the phone rang. “I will be right back Billy,” said the owner. “Don’t touch it until I get back.”

But Billy disobeyed the owner’s orders and went to open the chest. As he opened it a bright light shone into Billy’s face which almost blinded him. Suddenly he was sucked into the chest.

The owner came into the living room and noticed that Billy wasn’t there, “Billy!” screamed the owner. There was no response. Worried about where his friend had gone he noticed that the chest was open.

The owner slowly moved toward the chest. As he gazed in a bright light shone into his eyes almost blinding him he fell to the ground. He crawled into the kitchen barley able to see, gasping for air as the light not only hurt his eyes it also took his breath away. The owner finally could open his eyes and noticed that the chest was glowing.

He scrambled to the phone to call 911, “Hello,” said the person on the phone. “Hi...” replied the owner. “What is wrong?” “My…chest… it’s… glowing.”

The woman on the phone was confused, “How did this happen?” “I… don’t… know… my… friend… opened… it… and…”

BEEP. “Hello? Is anyone there? Hello?” asked the woman on the phone.

No answer, the woman hung up the phone got up and rushed to get to the address of the person who just called.

She and a few other men got to the house and broke down the door. “Is anyone there!” she yelled, no answer.

She and the men went to the kitchen and saw that the phone was dangling from the wire. They then went into the living room, and in the center of the room there it was, the trunk. She and the other men slowly moved toward it and slowly opened it, suddenly a light shone from the chest, almost blinding her and the men. Then her and the men got sucked in.

A long sixty years passed before man laid eyes on the mysterious trunk that lay dormant in the attic. During this long period of time, the house changed hands many times. It saw many new faces. A single father and his son, a family of four, a lonely old man...

Every couple of years the tattered deed to the house swapped hands. A new owner here, and one there. Soon the house became old along with it owners. Any attempt to fix the old property was in vain. Soon the house was cleared of all it's beloved possessions, and torn down.

The old trunk was shipped to an old warehouse. Were it sat not to move for another two decades. during this shorter period of time, the warehouse met the same fate as the trunks first home. It became old and worthless. It had no foundation anymore. People though it just rusted out. But the only one, or thing, that knew what had really happened to it, was the mysterious trunk.

That same year, the mysterious trunk had its eight hundredth birthday. It was moved out of the old warehouse, and put up for auction. It sold for ten thousand dollars. The buyer moved the trunk into his estate, and put it where everyone could see it. And as if on cue, the house became peppered with flies and spiders. And as the ageing of the house accelerated, so did the aging of the man. He died at the age of sixty five. And to the horror of all who is listening, the box was inherited by the mans son.

The cycle continued over and over again, taking the lives of many unsuspecting men and women and children. All the buyers decedents. His grand children, his great grand children, and so on. They all died at the curious age of sixty five.

Soon after the trunks one thousandth birthday, the box was not inherited, it was gifted. The gift of death was given to a ninety three year old man. That same day, he had a hart attack. His family was devastated. No one knew what happened, everyone accept the trunk.

The curse on that trunk grew stronger and stronger. It's unrelenting hate for all things new and bright became so intense, man started to see it's deeds of extreme hatred. They noticed it to a point that it was berried in the old yard for witch it was found. It was never herd about, or talked about again. No one dared to speak the name of the mysterious trunk. And so the ongoing assault the trunk had on all around it came to a well deserved end.

The End.

He took the trunk upstairs. He set it down where it was not going to get wet. After that it was about another 20 years before the old Man saw the trunk again. One day he was in the attic looking for an old photo album when he saw the trunk again. He looked at it

He remembered when he had moved in how he had to move it up stairs. With curiosity in the old mans eyes he reached for the buckles of the trunk. He unsnapped them and lifted up the trunk. When the old man opened the trunk he looked inside to his surprise nothing

Was there. But a few seconds after that the whole room started glowing. The old man

Looked around he was shocked. He didn’t know what was going to happen but then

He looked around and he was no longer in his old attic he was somewhere he never saw anything like before. There were huge hills dykes and lots of grass. The old man shook his head in disbelief I must be just having a dream the man thought so he shook himself. But nothing happened he thought he would have waked up in his cozy bed any second now but no the trunk had taken him somewhere. He walked a little bit and then saw a huge castle in the distance. He started running towards the castle he didn’t know where he was but he was going to find out. The old man ran and ran until he grew tired and walked. Just before dusk that night the old man reached the castle. He knocked on the big huge doors. A woman answered the door “may I help you” she said. Yes the old man replied could you tell me where I am? You are in Yorkshire town the town of royalty. The old man looked puzzled “ok thanks for your help” he said and left. The old man was confused and very puzzled had the trunk really take him back in time or to a different state? The old man needed a place to stay for the night so he stood on a hill and looked for any civilization of life. The old man looked across the hilly land. At last he found a little castle on the edge of town. He made his way towards the small castle. When he arrived at the castle he knocked on the door. A strange man answered “hello” he said.” I am from out of town” the old man said may I have a place to stay for the night? “Yes you may” said the strange man “where are you from”? the man asked. “I am from Manitoba” I said the strange man looked confused like he had never heard of the country Manitoba. Right then that’s when I realized I was no longer in the year 1999 I had gone back in time. The trunk must have taken me back to the past I thought. It all made since the castles the hilly landscapes the trunk had taken me back to medieval times. I knew the guy would think I was crazy but I had to try to get back home. That night as I got settled in I told the guy what had happened when I opened the trunk the guy stared at me in disbelief after a while he forgot about what I had said. A few minutes later I heard the phone ring I woke up. I was in shock because going back in time opening the trunk it all seemed so real. I was glad it was just a dream. I thought to myself I will never ever open that trunk.

Ella Lentz Age 11 Brooklyn When the trunk made it to the attic, Charlie, the new owner set it down in the same corner the trunk had sat twenty years ago. Charlie left the attic and went back down stairs. The house had belonged to Charlie’s family as long as he could remember, and long before that too! For all Charlie knew the trunk could be full of antiques or it could be full of nothing, absolutely nothing. He decided to leave the trunk alone for the time being. But Charlie couldn’t get the trunk off his mind. Every where he went the trunk sat in the back of his mind. Why was such a useless piece of junk like that old trunk sitting in his attic right now? He wasn’t sure why but he just couldn’t bring himself to open the trunk and find out why it was still lying around. Eventually Charlie was driven insane by this trunk and the guessing game that was always playing in his head. Could the trunk be full of money or just dust? He climbed the creaky old stairs that led to his attic. There it was, right where he had left it. But when he tried to open it he found that he couldn’t. The trunk was shut tight. Never in his life had Charlie ever been so determined to do something, it was like an invisible force had taken over him. He pulled and yanked and finally the lid came lose. A strong wind seemed to come from the trunk and it sent a shiver down Charlie’s spine. The lights flickered and went out. Then the window was thrown open by the strong wind that was now blasting from the trunk. Charlie was thrown backwards towards the window and he couldn’t move forward. He was being pushed out the window! He held on to the ledge as tight as he could, refusing to let the wind win. When Charlie could defy the wind no longer he fell backward out the window, but he was caught by the trunk that was now under the window ledge. The lid slammed shut, locking in Charlie forever. The trunk returned to the corner, as if Charlie had not just been taken from the world of the living forever. The only thing that hinted that Charlie had ever been there was a note left on top of the trunk; curiosity has killed Charlie.

As the new owner of the old house walked into his attic, just before he was going to set the old trunk down, he wanted to know what was in it. “It wouldn’t hurt to take a peak would it?” James thought to himself. He tried to crack open the rusted trunk, he went to his tool box and grabbed a hammer. He hit the lock and it broke off and landed on the old dusty floor. “Yes, now the moment of truth.” James opened the trunk.

James was shocked to see what was in the trunk. It was an old ripped in places map, with a trail on it and a big red “X”. James left his house and went to his friend’s Austin’s, who liked to collect maps; James thought it was a good idea to see if Austin knew anything about this map. Austin looked at the map very carefully. James, I have never seen any map like this before, where did you get it?” “Well I was in my basement when I found this big trunk, and I took it up to my attic and opened it and this was the only thing in it.” “I can’t believe I am saying this but I think it leads to something like treasure.” Said Austin. “You know what Austin? I think your right” Replied James. “Wait a minute, little path here looks just like the Brooklyn park just on 35th street.” Said Austin “Your right, I’m going to go check it out maybe today will be my lucky day, maybe I will find some treasure.” Replied James Later on that night it was around seven o’clock, James had been thinking hard he finally convinced himself to go to 35th street and look for the treasure.

James reached the street and suddenly he felt something cold go down his back. He didn’t care he still got out of his car. The map said that the “treasure” was right by the big tree along the Brooklyn Park. James went over to the tree and found a shovel. “What is this doing here” James mumbled to himself. He picked up the shovel and started digging. “Leave, leave now before you get hurt” Said a loud voice. “Who said that?” Asked James very scared. James put the shovel down; he had hit something hard in the ground. “I found it, I found it!” Screamed James. “I SAID LEAVEE” Said the strange voice again. “Who are you what do you want?” Asked James. “I am Dwayne McFarland that is my treasure; it is rightfully mine leave it. I used to live in your house that was my trunk” “Well how about this, we split the treasure” Suggested James. Dwayne McFarland came out of the woods. “Fine we will split it 50, 50” Said Dwayne.

The two men dug with their hands for a few minutes. “Ouch, I just hit something hard” Said James. “That’s the treasure, we have found it” Replied Dwayne with a very happy expression on his face. They both picked up another trunk this one was brownish too. They took it out of the dirt and mud. “Man, there is a lock on it” Said Dwayne. “That’s ok, here take this shovel and beat it off” Replied James. Dwayne took the shovel and broke off the lock; it was finally time to see what this other trunk had in it. They opened the trunk. “Oh my I can’t believe it.” Said James shocked as can be. “I know, we dug all this time for what? A wooden hockey puck and two old time hockey sticks.” Replied Dwayne starting to get angry. “Wait there is a note” Said James The note said…. You have found my precious treasure. Nobody knew I loved the sport, now you know, what are you going to do now? All I can say now is have fun with my sticks and puck. Signed: Abraham Lincoln.

The owner carried the trunk to the attic where it would stay for the many years to come. “C’mon!” said a child’s voice. “We have to go to the attic to play tag!”

The child’s name was Billy. Behind Billy came his older sister Margaret.

When the siblings entered the attic, they noticed a large wooden trunk. Curios Margaret opened the heavy trunk and looked inside. The trunk only contained a small box with a hinge on one of its sides. Margaret slowly wound the hinge. As the hinge went round and round, it made a gentle melody. Then suddenly, the top of the box flung open and a wooden clown face sprung out attached to a spring! “Wow!” said Billy.

That toy was then passed on from generation to generation.

Three year later, the family oldest boy had to sleep in the attic. “Why do I have to sleep in the attic? Why do I get kick out of my room? Why can’t the baby just sleep in my sister room? I don’t won’t live here why can’t we move? Mom when are we going to move out of this dump?” “Why do we have to?” when he was bring his last thing up into the attic he tripped over something it was the box his dad found in the basement when he first move in. I wonder what is in the trunk. I can’t open it, what is that, it’s a map “do you want to see what is in the box then flow this map” so first I need to go to a meadow where a meadow there’s one over there is.

So the boy went to the meadow then the map had ten foot steps on it and they are going to the left. So the boy took ten steps to the left. Ant he saw a bunch of flowers and he saw a shiny thing in the middle of the flowers. He started to run up to it. When he got there he sa2w that it was a key, he picked it up and run home. He got home and opened the trunk but there was nothing in it but then when he was going to close it but he got sucked in and as he knows it he was in a new place. “Where am I, I am not at home” “You are in the trunk” “Who said that?” “I did. Hi my name is Lusy, what is yours?” “My name is mat. How did I get in here?” “Well when you opened the trunk you let the magic out and the magic brought you in here” “I see but how do I get out?” “Well you have to find the magic first then you have to ask if he can take you to the king and you have to ask the king if you can take you home” “Ok thank you for your help good bye.”

So the boy started on his way to go find the magic “Where am I going to find magic in this big place?” “Shhhhhhh” “Who said that?” “I did Mr.Selther” “Do you where I can find magic” “Yes flow me”

So mat flowed Mr.Selther to magic. “There is magic” “Magic” “Who goes there?” “Me mat you know the boy sent in here” “Yes I remember you, what can I do for you?” “Well can you take me to the king?” “No” “Why” “Say the magic word” “Please” “Ok”

So Magic took Mat to the king. When they got there mat said “king can you please take me home?” “Yes I will. Now this wont to go home so take him home” “I am home mom I don’t won’t to move away anymore I won’t to stay here” “What made you wont to stay?” “Nothing, nothing at all”

My name is Hilary Carry and I don’t want to move to a new house. Are family was fine in our house in Wisconsin. My parents were making me sleep, in the attic. I didn’t want to sleep in the attic. My brother Brady gets the good room downstairs. He is 5 years old. He uses the charm on my mom, and it works.

I was helping my family unload the moving truck. I don’t know why we moving here anyways. This house is old, moldy and looks like it’s been here for centuries. I was actually eager to get inside the house. I wonder if it was as much of a dump inside as it was outside.

I walked in the house first. I carried my box of stuff. I didn’t have much. But Brady on the other hand, didn’t carry anything. Mom carried all of his stuff, she almost fell over about five times.

The house smelled like old people. I walked up the stairs, trying to find my room. I searched the whole upstairs level. There were no other stairs. Then I saw the only way up to my room. It was a Dumbwaiter. If it was my only way up then I would have go for it. I got in the tiny Dumbwaiter. It was dark and I couldn’t find the rope. I searched around and felt something on my hand. It was thin, and stringy. A spider web, I wiped my hand away and pulled myself up.

I made it to the top. I felt like I was going to suffocate in there. I crawled out of the tiny box and came to a grey room with black floors. There were no windows, and the room was filled with dust. I didn’t have a bed. It was just a mattress sitting on the floor covering in dusty sheets. I sat on the bed and salty water came out my eyes. My mom didn’t care about me, just my brother.

I wiped my eyes. I looked around the room. Something caught my eye. It was a trunk. It was covered in cobwebs and dust. The thought that filled my head was what was in there? I would have to look. The trunk had some kind of engraving on it. It was no engraving, it was a keyhole. I wondered if it was open. I would just have to find out.

I walked over as the floor screeched like a mouse. I tried to open the trunk. It opened, but not all the way. There were 2 compartments in the trunk. The first one, the only one I could get into had a map in it. What was the map for?

My eyes stared at that map. It was for the key. I had to find that key. I was summer vacation, what else did I have to do.

I looked at the map. The first place to go was downstairs in the kitchen. I had to look for a blue cupboard. It would be the only blue one in the kitchen.

I wanted to get started right away so got in the Dumbwaiter and made my way down to the kitchen. I found my mom, she was painting the cupboards. “Mom! Stop painting the cupboards. I mean mom, dad needs you outside. He wants to ask you what flowers to grow” I said trying to make her leave.

She left and I searched for the blue cupboard. I finally saw it. It was half painted white, but half of it was still a shiny blue. I was surprised nobody had ever painted it a different color before. I opened the cupboard. A dirty hand pulled me in. I fell for what seemed like hours, but was only seconds.

I fell into a tunnel. It was pitch black. I took one of the torches that was hooking on the wall. I couldn’t believe that this was under my house! A real world over top and a secret world of tunnels underneath my house. I wondered how these tunnels would be made under my house. How? A mine? Maybe.

I shone the torch on the wall. My eyes saw dead bodies hanging on the walls. My heart told me not to believe it but I knew it was true. These were missing people. Michael Peterson, his body was there. He had lived in this house before us. There clothes had rotted and had fallen to the floor. The skulls were hard and bony. They were filthy and rotten. There were millions of skeletons. I wasn’t dreaming and it was not Halloween. My heart was pumping a million times faster then it was supposed to.

I shone the torch higher on the wall. Written on the wall in blood was a message from the dead. It said “this is what happened to all the little children who tried to get the key. You will be one of them soon enough.”

It took me a second to realize that someone was saying those words. The skeletons mouths were moving. I started running. I knew someone or a lot of someone’s were chasing after me. I rounded the curve.

I kept running until I found a dead end. I was done for. This was the end of my life. I hadn’t lived a good life. My mom loved Brady not me. But I loved my mom so much and I loved Brady and my father too. I would miss them all so very much.

I backed up to the wall, pressed as far back as I could. Then the whole wall turned around. I was in some kind of secret room. I would look at the map to see where I was. The map!!! Where was it? Had I lost it back there? Those skeletons must have took it from me.

I turned around and saw a light coming. It was shining down on a red jewelry box. I walked over and opened it. There was the key. The key to the trunk I resume. I took the key.

Before I knew it I was back in my room. The key was in my hand. It was my chance to find out what was in that trunk. I walked over slowly. I put the key in the trunk and turned it.

I lifted the case. There was nothing in it but a small piece of paper. I picked it up and read.

Dear Hilary,

Congratulations, you are the first child to find the key to the trunk. You prize is the adventure you just had. This necklace will give you the power of adventure. Your family might not love you but with these adventures you will find your inner strength. Move on in your life. Don’t wait any longer. Do something adventurous. This trunk is not safe and will bring you curses for the rest of your life. Get ride of it. Now

Hilary took the trunk and put it in the dumpster. That was the best adventure she had ever had in her life. There was plenty more to come. She was wearing the ruby necklace. Now the trunk was gone. …4 years later “Mom, mom what’s in this trunk”.

The little girl opened it to find a map, and you know what happens next.

Why do we have to move here? And to make things worse why do I have to live in the attic? ” “because dear we have no room there is only 2 bed rooms and I can’t climb stairs while I am pregnant” her mother said. “but mom” “Alice no go upstairs and finish unpacking your stuff.

Alice thought as she climbed the stairs, “she never understands that my little brother jerry always gets what he wants and I don’t.” I enter my new room. It was not like most attics. The walls were a bright purple my favorite colour and the floors were a red carpet. In the corner there was a big brown trunk. I walked up to it. It was not mine or mom’s or jerry’s. I looked though the whole room. I did not find a key but I did find a necklace. It was round and there was a picture of a horse on it. There was a oval on the trunk. I put the necklace on it and stepped back. The lock turned then it opened with a flash of bright light. I looked inside. There was a book called how to take care of your magic horse I picked it up one page had another oval I put the necklace in and in a bigger flash of light I was not in the attic any more I was in this beautiful place there was a heard of beautiful horse they had wings they were beautiful gold wings they also had a rainbow man and tail and a with body. One of them walked up to me and said “hello my name is hope. I am part of the weather herd I put rainbows in the sky .and your name?” “My name is Alice. I am 11 years old and I am part of the Johnson family”

Nice to meet you Alice. can you help me and my heard ? “sure what is wrong with them?” “ Our herd leader is sick and dieing and if we do not get his powers out of him And put it into a horse with no powers it will never rain again because that’s his powers.” “I would love to help. So what can I do?” “You can go out with snowflake and look for the rock of power.” “What dose it do?”

It drains horses of their power. And it can also transfer powers into others like see that little colt he will be getting lightings powers and thunder will be the heard leader. “I will go get snowflake

Wow was this really happening? This is so crazy but it is pretty cool to be friends with magic horse. ‘Alice this is snowflake. He controls the power of snow. “Hi there. How are you ? “Good.” “ So should we get going” “Sure”

We walked out of the herds sight and into the woods

We walked for a long time then I tripped over a rock . “Oh look you found the stone of power”.

We went back to the meadow were the herd was grazing we gave the stone to rainbow. He took it into the cave lighting was in.

Everybody stood quietly and then rainbow came out caring the rock. He said a chant and placed the rock in front of the little colt and all the sudden he was not little any mire he had wings and was fully grown. everyone cheered with happiness. “Alice where are you” called my mom so I lifted the magic place. She asked me were I went and I just said …..“over the rainbow.

Erin Cecchetto Age 11 Brooklyn As he was carried the trunk up the stairs to the attic he couldn’t help but notice how light the trunk was. He was now very eager to open the strange box. He hurried up the stairs and put the trunk in the corner. He unlocked the old leather straps and pulled up cover. Empty. That was funny he thought. The man was sure that their was going to something cool or interesting. He went to close the useless trunk when he noticed a small key. Not any key but a key from what looked like 100 years or more ago. 10 years later the mans daughter and son were playing hide and go seek up in the old attic. The girl was 9 years old and the boy was 7. The boy was hiding in the old box when he saw a small key hole in the side if the box. He jumped out of the box, and yelled to his sister, “Hey look what I fond.” “I fond you, you’re it” said the girl. “No, I’m serious come see!” said the boy. She walked over to the old trunk, what could he possibly want; it was just an old, empty trunk that had always been there. The boy showed his sister the small key hole in the side of the box. They looked around for the key until they finally fond it. It was old, rusty and they knew it must be the one. The boy tried the key and put it in the small hole in the side of the trunk. At first nothing happened. They both got in side the big empty trunk and then the lid slammed shut. They tried to push it open but it wouldn’t open. Then every thing was light again. They tried to open the box, it open with no problems what so ever. They tried to push it open but it wouldn’t open. Then every thing was light again. They tried to open the box, it open with no problems what so ever. They stepped out of the box, all the old toys were gone from the attic and every thing was just wood. No siding on the house yet, there was no junk that filled the place; it looked like a house just like theirs that wasn’t finished yet. They walked down the steps, they didn’t squeak anymore and there wasn’t any carpet on them. The whole house was empty, they heard talking but it wasn’t anyone they knew. “I think we went back in time to when our house was first built,” said the girl. Her brother didn’t answer, he was busy watching the people build and the young children argue over what room was going to be theirs. “We have to find a way to get out of here,” said the girl. “I know, but how?” said her brother. “Well what if we get back in the box? Maybe it will slam shut and we will be able to go back.” “I don’t know about you but I kind of want to stay here and explore a little,” said her curios brother. “That is just the thing I would expect to come out of you!” said the girl getting a little angry and annoyed. “Come on lets go.” They went back to the trunk. They got in and the pattern repeated. The next thing they knew they were back home.

So Josh went up to the attic to where he found the trunk. “It’s not there!” screamed Josh! So he looked everywhere like crazy but the dark corner. Then, when he looked in an old, battered chest in the dark corner he saw an old, rusty key. But it looked like it was made of gold. “Look!” yelled Josh. He picked up the key and raced back down to his room. Josh took the key and put it in the keyhole of the trunk and turned and tugged. The trunk opened! Inside were chickens with solid gold eggs and jewels and jewelry and $100,000,000.00 piled all around them! “Wow!” was all Josh could say. He was so amazed! He took them to his father and mother and they were very happy for the rest of their lives.

Then Josh thought about the old chest. He ran up to the attic, opened the chest and saw nothing. Josh gave a big sigh and pushed his hand on the bottom. It squiggled! Then miraculously jumped up and stood away!

Josh looked at it and then at the chest and what he saw was gold coins. Soon his sister found them and hid them and went away to found more untold riches!
