Twinning of Highway 101 won’t officially reach downtown Windsor for several years, but the latest paving project will bring it to Exit 5, the first exit leading directly to Windsor, by September. The contract to Dexter Construction, for $6,821,562, calls for paving from Exit 4 at St. Croix to Exit 5 at Three Mile Plains, says a news release from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal officials. A spokesman for the Department said environmental assessment on widening the Causeway and constructing a new bridge to carry an additional lane won’t be finished for at least two months. With additional reviews and public consultation, the twinning project won’t reach exits to downtown Windsor for a few years yet.

The waterfront area of Windsor is a sad comment on the town council of 1970. Now the only people using it are a few canoe paddlers and the once a year pumpkin padders! There are actually people living here who don't know we once had shipping and wharfs and all that went with it; like Jobs and Industry!! Now is the opportunity to get rid of that enviromental disaster called a causeway, build a bridge, and let nature back in the Avon River. It really is a river you know, not a lake.

It' s too bad there isn't a way to open up the causeway and allow Windsor to have a real waterfront again. They should look at this as opportunity to fix the past mistake of ruining Windsor's waterfront....
