A man was airlifted to Halifax after a toppling tree landed on top of him.

The man, whose identity has yet to be released, was logging in Newport Station Sept. 11 when a tree he was cutting down collapsed on him, says Windsor District RCMP Commander Staff Sgt. Dan Austin.

The injured man was initially knocked unconscious by the blow, but managed to dial 911 when he regained consciousness. The Windsor Fire Department, Windsor Rural RCMP and Emergency Health Services paramedics rushed to the scene around 10:45 a.m.

Austin says the man was sent to hospital with a head injury.
