The Windsor District RCMP are investigating a marijuana grow operation discovered in a downtown residence this past weekend.
The local fire department was dispatched to the building first upon receiving a report that a fire alarm was sounding in a dwelling on Gerrish Street. Once on scene, firefighters noticed there was no smoke coming from the building and called the RCMP for assistance entering the structure to assess the situation.
A marijuana grow operation was found inside the home. Police later executed a search warrant and seized growing equipment and about one kilogram of marijuana.
Sgt. Leanne Macdonald, of the Windsor District RCMP, says no one was home at the time of the alarm. They are still investigating. No charges were laid in relation to the matter as of press time the morning of Dec. 3.
