Windsor Fire Department members leave the scene after extinguishing a small fire at Sepracor Canada's building in the West Hants Industrial Park on Feb. 9.
The Windsor Fire Department raced to the West Hants Industrial Park Saturday, Feb. 9 after they received a 911 call about a structure fire at Sepracor Canada.
Jamie Juteau, a deputy chief with the fire department, said they weren't sure what to expect when they arrived at the Sepracor building so they planed for the worst case scenario.
“I called out Kings County HazMat because this is a chemical plant. We didn't know if we had a chemical fire here or what we had when we first got here,” said Juteau, noting the Hazardous Materials Response Team was called off once the nature of the fire was discovered.
“We searched the building and our crew on the roof found a burned out motor on their air handling unit. It wasn't a big deal at all,” said Juteau.
The fire department received the call at 2:32 p.m. and were on scene within 10 minutes.
“It was pretty short order.”
