Saturday’s ‘Love Walk’ in support of Michelle Lyon and Shayne Howe was a heartening display of the kind of common sense and decency we Canadians pride ourselves on.
Despite the fears of local politicians that outside agitators would turn it into a violent, vengeful protest, the people who came out for the walk— several from Halifax and other communities— not only kept their cool but had such a good time they’d like to do it again.
That such a disturbing incident could result in such a peaceful, happy outcome is cause for celebration in itself. Maybe racism is actually a thing of the past.
We fervently hope so. And we’d like to see a parade like this next year.
