From attending fires to princess teas, reporter Ashley Thompson had a wide array for assignments in 2012. Here are some of her favourite photos from the year.

The contents of a 2011 travel trailer spilled out into a ditch near the off ramp for Exit 8 on Highway 101 after the camper flipped and pulled the truck towing it off the road Sept. 15. The Hantsport Fire Department and Windsor District RCMP responded.

Falmouth’s Jeremy Page caught some air during a solid qualifying run at Snowboard Nova Scotia’s provincial halfpipe competition. Page finished second in the senior males’ division of the competition held in March.

The Gateways’ Braden Mercier reached first base just as the ball reached the glove of the Shamrocks first baseman, Deron Moores, in the final minutes of a July 8 game in Hantsport.

A local photography buff plots out the best place to point and shoot near Minas Basin Pulp and Power’s hydroelectric facility in St. Croix. The historic building positioned across the St. Croix River was in the process of being torn down by Nova Dismantling when this photo was taken in November.

Ben Van Dommelen chased after his runaway bride during the children’s parade. The then 22-month-old and his twin sister, Georgia Van Dommelen dressed as the royal couple for the Town of Hantsport’s Canada Day children’s’ parade.

Three-year-old Lucas Crowe, of Brooklyn, found a way to beat the heat in August by running through the Town of Hantsport’s splash pad. The new addition at the Hantsport Memorial Community Centre grounds turned out to be a popular attraction as the first facility of its kind in the Annapolis Valley.

Volunteer firefighters from several stations in Hants County spent hours battling a farmhouse fire on the Red Bank Road in Centre Burlington Nov. 30.

Debbie Imlay, of the Windsor Fire Department, doused the nearby outhouse that caught fire along with West Hants Coun. Shirley Pineo’s cottage Oct. 23.

Ian Banks caught some crowd-pleasing air as he conquered Ski Martock’s Slush Cup Challenge in March.

The River Rats’ Carson Colborne scrambled to get the puck out of his team’s defensive zone in a playoff game against the Clare Lions. The Rats lost the Feb. 20 match 5-3, and were eliminated from the Jr. C playoffs.
