The Hantsport Shamrocks got back to the field after a three-week break and looked sharp, splitting a double header with rival Pictou County Albions June 20 at Shamrock Field.

In game one, Joey Gaudet pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the Shamrocks to a convincing 8-0 win. Hantsport scored early and often, plating five runs in the second inning and three more in the third.  Deron Moores had three hits and Ross Coburn added two to pace the Shamrock attack.  Jed Martin continued his strong start, knocking a two-run triple, and Adrian Lloy chipped in a single and two RBI. Derek Hart, Evan Fletcher and Jeff Bishop rounded out the Shamrock hit parade.

Game two is likely one Hantsport would like to forget.  Doug Coldwell pitched a gem through six, limiting a strong Pictou attack to two base runners.  For the second time in as many starts, his strong effort was wasted as the Albions rallied for six runs in the seventh and added the winning run with two out in the top of the ninth for a stunning 9-7 win.

“We played great all day,” coach Shane Oickle said of the sudden turn of events in game two.  “They just hit the ball where we weren’t in the seventh. What can you do?”

Adrian Lloy continued his strong play, punching three hits while adding two more RBI.  Mike King added two hits to pace the Shamrock attack.

The Shamrocks, 3-3, now sit sixth early in the NSIBL season.  Their next game is June 30 when they visit the Windsor Knights at Tremaine Crescent.  Game time is 6 p.m. Hantsport’s next home game is July 7 versus Windsor, then July 11, when they take on the Amherst Blues.
