Valley Boxing Academy members Jonathan Chambers and Jake Schofield had big weekend wins when they represented Nova Scotia at a Canada Winter Games boxing competition in St John's, Newfoundland.

Friday evening, Feb. 22, Chambers scored a unanimous decision victory over Matt Sanders in a 132-lb lightweight bout, while Schofield, boxing in his first competitive bout, dominated Kalen Dicks to score a second-round TKO victory in a 112-lb flyweight contest.

The weekend would only get better for the Falmouth-based club mates when the pair squared off the following evening at a second card hosted by the host province. Chambers earned a second unanimous win when he out-boxed Andrew Bragg.

For Schofield, he not only managed to soundly outpoint Tyrone Stacey over three rounds, but he also picked up the award for the Top Performer of the 12-member Nova Scotia team competing over the two-day event. This was an impressive feat considering he was the least experienced member of the team.

Chambers, 12, Schofield, 14, and fellow club mate David Griffin, 13, are all part of the Nova Scotia Canada Games Core team from which the final team will be selected for the 2011 Games scheduled to take place in Halifax.

Griffin didn't make the trip to Newfoundland because no opponent was available for him.

Next up for Schofield, Chambers, and Griffin will be a Canada Winter Games competition March 15 in New Glasgow.

The Valley Boxing Academy will host its next event Saturday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at the Windsor Community Centre.
