A new walking trail from the Hantsport Visitor Information Centre loops through a wooded area overlooking the Halfway River Bridge and waters leading into the Avon River. Fall leaves cover new wood chips marking the path.

From the top of this trail, from the edge of the Billy Cleveland Field, a spectacular view of the water can be seen through the trees. The Churchill House can also be seen just beyond the space where kids congregate in warmer weather to play baseball. Then, continuing through Porter Avenue, another pathway connects Price Street to William Street. Fine gravel, a wooden fence and plants keep a casual stroll pleasant.

Mayor Wayne Folker says, in addition to the two walking trails recently completed, the Town aims to have more trials added throughout the town in years to come. “It gives a little bit of variety to those who walk,” Folker says. “It gives a people a chance to see something other than streets in Town. There’s more to Hantsport than Main Street.”

It was hard getting started and making the commitment, but now people are able to come out and see some of the history of the area, the work proves worth it, Folker says. “We’re trying to get people encouraged in activities; to get walking.”

Eventually, there will be signs to connect the trails in town, Folker adds. “I would like to congratulate those who played a part in the creation of these trails and thanks all involved on a good job done. This is really quite a spot to relax now.”
