Brendan Meehan, of the West Hants Thunder, swings at an incoming pitch.
When the pressure is on in late August during the Eastern Canadian Bantam Fastpitch Softball Championships in St. Croix, the West Hants Thunder will likely look back to Canada Day and the win they pulled out against North River in the bottom of the seventh inning in the opening game of their doubleheader sweep for inspiration.
Sam Palmer executed a perfect bunt, stole two bases and scored the winning run on a passed ball to give the Thunder their opening game 9-8 win. Braeden Pinch drove in four runs with a pair of doubles and a single. Brandon Hamilton connected for a double and a triple.
In the second game, which was an exact opposite of the first, the Thunder routed the Colchester County team 17-7 in a game called after six innings due to the 10-run rule.
Palmer was two for three and crossed the plate three times while Justin Crossley finished a four-for-six doubleheader with a pair of hits. Hamilton tripled and singled in the second game while scoring a pair of runs.
The Thunder will play in a tournament in Sheet Harbour this weekend, July 6-8.
