The Windsor-West Hants Eastern Kings Shooting Stars Midget Basketball Team continues to improve its play in the Metro Midget Basketball League in Halifax.
They won their 5th consecutive game over the Norwood Knights Sunday afternoon at Bicentennial Jr. High in Dartmouth.
The Knights with a smothering defense and staked out an 11-7 lead before the Stars grabbed a 17-15 lead at the half and then played a stronger third quarter taking a 38-27 lead before settling for the 40-33 win. The victory gives the Stars a 5-1 record and 2nd place in their division trailing only the Bedford Eagles who are at 7-1.
The Stars showed Sunday morning, they could use some work at the foul line shooting 6 for 21. Lauren Jodrey of Hantsport who finished the game with 11 points, earned two of those with a great swish shot from 12 feet out in the second half. Amber Nickerson finished the scoring for the Stars with a nice shot which she swished like Lauren did from 12 feet out to give the Stars their 39th and 40th points. Allison Boyd who leads her teasm in scoring with 131 league points had trouble finding the net and was shotting 1 for 11 at the half before showing some sizzle in the third quarter and finishing 7 for 26 along with 1 foul shot to finish with 15 points.
Besides Boyd and Jodrey, New Minas's Scarlett Smith connected for 8 points, Amber Nickerson had 5 and Kasey MacDermott despite her 1 foul shot played a strong defensive game with a number of steals. The Midget Shooting Stars will try and move to 7-1 on the season with a pair of games in Dartmouth this Sunday.
