The West Hants Shooting Stars got off to an awfully slow start against the Halifax Steelers in Metro Midget Girls Basketball Sunday afternoon Feb. 14 in Dartmouth but by the time the game finished, fire was coming from all cylinders.

The two teams were tied 25 at the half but the Stars outscored their opponents 20-13 in the third quarter to grab a 45-38 lead and finished strongly outscoring the Steelers 23-6 in the final quarter for a 68-44 win. Lauren Jodrey of Hantsport who played an impressive game throughout, taking strong passes and running hard to the basket gave the Stars their first lead of the game with her basket putting the Stars in front 22-21.

Scarlett Smith of New Minas on a nice 3 point play making the basket and then adding the foul shot putting the Stars up 25-23 with 17 seconds left in the first half. Allison Boyd, usually the Stars top scorer went ice cold in the first half going 2 for 15 in the first half but finished 11 for 29 and a game high 28 points. Jodrey added 18, Smith had 12, Amber Nickerson had 6 and Kayla Bradford 4 points on two strong running plays leading to nice layups. The Stars shot 10 for 12 from the foul line and are now waiting on word of their playoff games after going 9-1 in the regular season.
