With two games under their belt, the Windsor Hants County Rugby Football Club’s inaugural season looks promising. Despite early loses, the team is full of enthusiasm and ready to give the area it’s first home field advantage.

They may have gotten “creamed” in their first play of the season against the Valley Bulldogs, but founding member Godfrey Kenny says moral is high. “These are very committed players,” he said. “Team spirit is very strong.”

The WHCRFC faired much better July 8 with a narrow 31-26 victory for Halifax.

Kenny said it is really about having fun and playing on the home turf. “That’s more or less why were here. We just want to play.”

The team has a nice mix to it as well with players ranging in age between 15 and 50, novice and those who have played all their lives. “There is this incredible sense of companionship and teamwork; we’re loving it,” Kenny said.

The sense of camaraderie spills off the field, as well, when players and the dozen or so ‘social members’ hit the Spitfire Arms Alehouse for a post-game brew. “You can join the club even if you don’t want to play,” Kenny said. “Social members can come out and watch the games, get involved and join us for a free keg after the game.”
