The newly formed Valley Maple Leafs are off to a strong start, having won their first two games of the season.

The Jr. B team beat Glace Bay 3-2 in their home opener Sept. 21 in Berwick. They followed that score up with a 7-4 victory over Pictou County Sept. 22 in Kentville.

Luke Short and Austin Himmelman led the way for the Leafs in the second game, each scoring two goals. Local players Mark Swain, of Windsor, and Brandon Parker, of Brooklyn, each added one, as did Valley native David Hayes.

Assists went to Himmelman, Parker, Jory Uhlman (with two), Jeff Longaphy and Craig Anderson.

Olafr Schmidt was in nets for the Valley Maple Leafs and turned away 26 of 30 shots.
