SLIDESHOW: Kings County celebrates Canada Day

KINGS COUNTY, NS - As communities from coast to coast celebrated Canada’s 151st birthday, those across Kings County were no exception.

In Burlington, it was the 30th anniversary of the Canada Day Fair hosted by the Burlington Community Club.

Events and attractions included a parade, flag raising ceremony, horse pull, children’s carnival, musical entertainment, a bounce castle, flower show, a lobster raffle, silent auction, chicken barbecue and much more.

In Kentville, Canada Day was celebrated with the opening of Memorial Pool for a free public swim. The event also featured contests and free watermelon and juice boxes. There were bubbles and chalk for the kids.

New Minas celebrated Canada Day at Lockhart and Ryan Memorial Park. June 30 saw a performance by world-renowned Canadian Armed Forces parachute team The SkyHawks.

During the afternoon on July 1, there was a soap slide, children’s activities, bounce castles, barbecues and tickets were being sold for the Rotary Duck-less Race fundraiser.

Activities scheduled for the evening include live musical performances getting underway at 7 p.m., the family and corporate Rotary Duck-less Race draws at 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. and fireworks at dusk.

Several other communities hosted Canada Day celebrations as well, including Wolfville, Greenwood, Hall’s Harbour, Canning and more.
