A young man walked away with minor injuries following a car accident on Panuke Road this afternoon.

Windsor Rural RCMP Cst. Natasha Roberts said the man lost control of his Honda Civic July 9 shortly after turning onto Panuke Road from MacLeod Court and slammed into a power pole.

“Apparently he just lost sight and drove into the ditch,” said Roberts.

The mid-afternoon accident triggered the power lines to spark, which caught the grass on fire a few metres away from where the car crashed.

Deputy Chief Jamie Juteau, with the Windsor Fire Department, said the firefighters immediately hit the flames upon arrival to prevent it from spreading.

“We got the call for the accident so we were coming for that and then they started updating it – a grass fire leading to rolls of hay that were in this field,” said Juteau.

Due to the dry conditions, plus the hay in the field, Juteau said it “could have really caused some problems” if it hadn't of been caught quickly.
