Fatal motor vehicle crash in Newport Corner

Windsor District RCMP responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 215, Newport Corner this afternoon.

NEWPORT CORNER – One man is dead after a truck went off the road this afternoon.

iWndsor District RCMP and other emergency personnel responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Highway 215, Newport Corner, March 24. At approximately 12:30 p.m., Windsor District RCMP were dispatched to the scene near Chalet Crescent just outside of Brooklyn.

A RCMP press release says a preliminary investigation has revealed that the vehicle left the road and the 57-year-old male driver, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 16-year-old male passenger was transported to the Hants County hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both occupants are from Hants County, police said.

The traffic was diverted for approximately two hours and the roadway has since reopened. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Brooklyn Fire Chief Andy McDade, who was on the scene, said no other vehicles were involved with the crash.

“One passerby witnessed the crash and called 911,” McDade said. “Brooklyn Fire responded, as well as EHS, RCMP, and (Department of Transportation) has the road shut down.”
