Windsor man wanted on province-wide warrant allegedly flees from police, arrested at McDonalds

WINDSOR – Thirty-year-old Kerry Lee Sampson, of Windsor, was arrested after allegedly fleeing from RCMP officers the evening of Aug. 17.

Const. Tammy Lobb, media relations officer with the RCMP, said Sampson was charged with resisting arrest, escaping from custody and breach of recognisance.

“RCMP officers were conducting a traffic checkpoint in the area of exit 5A on Highway 101, when they recognized a passenger in a vehicle as being a man wanted on a provincial-wide warrant,” Lobb said in a phone interview.

“Officers attempted to arrest the man, but he fled from police. The man was arrested a short time later at a business on Cole Drive in Windsor.”

Lobb said Sampson fled from the vehicle and started running from the police on foot.

Police arrested the shirtless man in the drive-thru lane of the Windsor McDonalds.

RCMP did not confirm the location of the arrest, but did say it occurred on Cole Drive, and images captured by a witness showed police escorting the man from the drive-through lane to a police vehicle.

“He was arrested and held in police custody overnight,” she said.

Sampson appeared in Kentville provincial court on Aug. 18.
