Hants Border resident suffering from bah humbug mood this season

LETTER — With the Christmas season fast approaching, and in my advancing years, I am finding that I am fast developing into an Ebenezer Scrooge like character. My “bah humbug” moments are coming thick and fast.

The first bad sign is the Christmas garbage filling some shops just after the back to school phase finishes.

Next comes the greedy venders selling their over-priced Christmas trees roadside in November followed by the local towns sticking up their Happy Holidays flags and associated paraphernalia on their Main Street lampposts.

If there is one thing I object to it is the Happy Holidays stuff. It’s supposed to be Christmas, after all.

Worst of all is the constant and inane TV advertising of their upcoming special Christmas movies.

The problem is that it’s all the same childish movies from yesteryear that everyone has seen every year for the last two decades. Everyone knows all the scripts, word by word, and it is simply grossly insulting to the TV viewer.

You know what to expect every year — for example, The Grinch, The Holiday Express, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, et cetera. But the absolute pits is the film Elf, “starring” the alleged comedian Will Ferrell. I can’t stand this actor who is nowhere as funny as he as thinks he is. He is nearly as unfunny as Rick Mercer.

Although he first surfaced in 1843, the wonderfully named Ebenezer Scrooge remains my hero.

Just my Christmas thoughts.
