The members and executive of the Windsor Fire Department are pleased to have reached an interim agreement with the Municipality of West Hants, which means for the citizens we have served for many years that fire service will continue for the region as we work to provide a long-term solution to the current situation.
The Windsor Fire Department has been a shared regional fire service, efficiently serving the people of the Town of Windsor and the Municipality of West Hants for over 60 years. We believe this relationship can continue and we are committed to doing all we can to being part of the solution. At a time when other municipalities across this province are challenged to provide services with diminishing tax bases, we believe it is more important than ever to work together. This fire service is a great example of how communities can share services and save money.
We look forward to the next important steps in the process as we move into mediation with West Hants to ensure a long-term fire service solution for all of our citizens.
Our thanks to all the members of the community for your continued support these past few months, Minister Mark Furey, the staff of the Nova Scotia Department of Municipal Affairs and our local MLA Chuck Porter. We remain dedicated to providing the best quality service.
Chief Scott Burgess, on behalf of all the members of the Windsor Fire Department
