Four months ago Wolfville resident Hugh Chipman hiked to Amethyst Cove, near Cape Split and left behind a geocache in memory of Ebenezer Bishop. The stash honours the trek Bishop, who was from Greenwich, made in February of 1809 across an icy Bay of Fundy to propose to his sweetheart.

The cache, which can only be reached at low tide, was finally uncovered June 11. Chipman says the climb involves more than 100 metres of very steep trail, with just a rope to hang onto. Adding he was aided by the Scotian Hiker, Chipman warns visitors to consult a tide table before setting out.

Geocaching is a treasure hunting game where individuals use a GPS device to hide and seek containers.

Several folks have pointed out that the cache listing was vague as to how much time to allow for travel, and how long around low tide it is safe to be on the beach. I have updated the cache listing to provide more details.
