Marvin Rhyno and Tim Kendrick have been a coaching tandem for the past 16 years, and that association isn't about to end anytime soon.
Rhyno, a Wolfville resident and an employee of Kent Co-Op in New Minas, confirmed last week he has requested a transfer to Charlottetown in order to become one of Kendrick's assistant coaches with the UPEI Panthers men's basketball team.
"I'll be heading to P.E.I. on the Labour Day weekend, and my plan is to transfer to one of the Co-Op locations in Charlottetown," he said.
Rhyno and Kendrick were fixtures with the Horton High School basketball programs for years. Kendrick announced earlier this summer he was leaving the Valley to take the reigns of the hoops program on the island.
Rhyno confirmed he was asked by Kendrick to consider becoming part of his coaching staff at UPEI.
Given their long and successful association, not to mention their close friendship, he jumped at the chance and started the ball rolling in terms of transferring his employment.
"I'm looking forward to starting something new over there, and hopefully helping Tim begin a new tradition of success at UPEI," he said.
"It's going to be hard, but at the same time, it's exciting. I'm really looking forward to a new challenge," both in terms of his work and his coaching career in basketball.
