Yarmouth and its Mariners Centre are among the communities in the Atlantic Provinces that have qualified for Kraft Hockeyville.

Now the push is on to make Yarmouth Hockeyville. Up for grabs for the winning community is a pre-season NHL hockey game and $100,000 in arena upgrades. People are being urged to support the local effort. To advance to the next level of voting the Mariners Centre in Yarmouth needs to be among the top three arenas in the Atlantic Region.

The top 3 communities from each region that will go onto the next round will be announced on Saturday, March 3, during CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada. The next round of the competition involves public voting.

A Facebook page has also been set up to support the local effort.

People are being asked to become a member on the Kraft Hockeyville site. You can become a member by using your email address of Facebook page. (People have also been  invited to upload photos, videos and/or write a submission about why Yarmouth deserves to be Kraft Hockeyville.)

To become a member you can follow these steps:

•go to www.krafthockeyville.ca

•click on Explore Communities

•click on Atlantic Region

•go down the list, locate and click on Mariners Centre

•click on Join Us

•choose to sign up with either Facebook or email

•fill out form and register

•if you have an interesting, positive story, compose and upload

• if you have interesting, positive pics then upload them (MISSION 1 PAGE)

Each community will be judged as follows:

•1/3 for originality;

•1/3 for community spirit;

•1/3 passion for hockey.

This initiative is being pursued by Yarmouth and Acadian Shores and the Mariners Centre.
