Who is your favourite NHL team?

HALIFAX, N.S. – The Montreal Canadiens are Atlantic Canada’s favourite team.

A poll by Corporate Research Associates indicates 26 per cent of those polled say the Habs are their favourite team, compared to 20 per cent who follow the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Seventeen per cent say they don’t have a favourite team, or don’t watch of follow NHL hockey.

Finally, two per cent do not offer an opinion on the matter.

Other NHL teams reported as favourites by Atlantic Canadians include the Boston Bruins (5 per cent) and the Pittsburgh Penguins (four per cent).

All other NHL teams are supported by one per cent of residents or fewer.

Across the region, preference for the Montreal Canadiens is driven by higher support from residents in New Brunswick, compared with the rest of Atlantic Canada.

In addition, women are more likely than men to not watch or follow hockey.

These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly and are based on a telephone sample of 1,503 adult Atlantic Canadians between Nov. 10 and Dec. 1.

The poll is accurate to within plus or minus 2.5 percentage points, 95 times out of 100.
