BERWICK – The KMBA U16 boys’ basketball team is looking strong ahead of provincials after a weekend of winning on their home court.

The KMBA U16 Boys basketball are busy preparing for the BNS U16 Div 2 Provincial Championships which will be held in Dartmouth April 13 to 14.

The team hosted a three-team pre-tournament exhibition contest this past weekend of March 31 at the Berwick School.

The tournament featured the Celtics U16 boys from Dartmouth and the two KMBA U16 teams – the Gators and the Gladiators.

In the first game the Gladiators played the Celtics. The Gladiators came out of the gate strong, opening up an 18-point first quarter lead, but the Celtics rallied to trail 52-49 at halftime.

The Gladiator started the second half on another 16-0 run and held on to win 86-79. Cam Oickle lead the Gladiator attack, scoring 32 points, and Issac Moores followed, with nine.

In the second game the Dartmouth Celtics played the KMBA Gators and again, after trailing for most of the game, rallied in the fourth quarter to take a 71-66 victory.

In the third and final game of the day, the KMBA Gators rebounded – figuratively and literally – from their earlier loss to defeat the KMBA Gladiators by a score of 64 to 51.

The Gators lead from beginning to end in a dominating performance, proving they will be the team to beat in the upcoming provincial championships.

The KMBA squads will continue to train over the next two weeks as they make final preparations for provincial tournament play.
