One person was killed and another injured in a mountain lion attack in a remote part of Northern California on Saturday, authorities said.

An 18-year-old man called authorities at 1:13 p.m. to say he and his 21-year-old brother were attacked by a mountain lion while hunting antler sheds in the Georgetown area, according to an El Dorado County Sheriff's Office news release. liberation

“A death like this is extremely rare,” El Dorado County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kyle Parker told CNN affiliate KRA.

Parker says the mountain lion was later found by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and an El Dorado County trapper.

“The mountain lion was dispatched and the body of the mountain lion was collected for further examination,” he said.

According to Parker, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will try to determine what caused the attack.

Mountain lion attacks on humans are rare, according to State institution. This is the first time a mountain lion has been killed in California in 30 years.
