BREAKING: Roy McGrath found, wounded in Tennessee after three-week manhunt


Roy McGrath has been located by authorities in Tennessee, according to the US Marshals Office and the FBI’s Baltimore branch. In a statement, the FBI said, “We are reviewing an agent-involved shooting that occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 3. While under arrest, Roy McGrath was injured and taken to the hospital. The FBI takes all shootings involving agents or members of our task force seriously. Per FBI policy, the shooting remains under investigation by the FBI’s investigative division.” They confirmed the arrest in Knoxville, Tn. McGrath, 53, of Naples, Florida, became the subject of a nationwide manhunt after he failed to appear in federal court in Baltimore on March 13. McGrath’s attorney, Joseph Murtha, told 11 News he could not comment until Monday evening. Federal prosecutors said McGrath misled officials at the Maryland Environmental Service, where he served as executive director, to support former Gov. Larry Hogan cutting $233,000 to become Hogan’s chief of staff. Hogan denied the severance, and McGrath stepped down as head coach in August 2020. The FBI and US Marshals Office offered rewards of up to $20,000 for information leading to his arrest. McGrath was indicted on October 5, 2021. Allegations of wire fraud and theft or bribery. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on condition that he appear at trial. On June 28, 2022, McGrath was indicted in a superseding indictment charging him with destroying, altering, or falsifying records in federal investigations. This report will be updated.

The FBI takes all shootings involving agents or members of our task force seriously. .In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting remains under investigation by the FBI’s Investigative Division.”

They confirmed the arrest in Knoxville, Tn. area.

McGrath, 53, of Naples, Florida, was the subject of a nationwide manhunt after he failed to appear in federal court in Baltimore for a March 13 hearing.

McGrath’s attorney, Joseph Murtha, told 11 News that he could not comment until Monday evening.

Federal prosecutors said McGrath misled officials at the Maryland Environmental Service, where he served as executive director, to support former Gov. Larry Hogan cutting $233,000 to become Hogan’s chief of staff. Hogan denied the severance, and McGrath resigned as CEO in August 2020.

The FBI and US Marshal’s Office announced rewards of up to $20,000 for information leading to his arrest.

On October 5, 2021, McGrath was indicted on charges of wire fraud and theft or bribery. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on condition that he appear at trial.

On June 28, 2022, McGrath was charged with destroying, altering or falsifying records in federal investigations.
