Hants County turns out in droves for annual Santa Claus Parade of Lights

WINDSOR, N.S. — Although it was Black Friday — a day known for attracting crowds of shoppers seeking deals — the streets of Windsor were lined with youngsters eager to see Santa Claus Nov. 24.

The jolly old elf didn't disappoint, arriving at the Town of Windsor's parade of lights while travelling on top of a Windsor Fire Department truck.

The annual event has been steadily growing in popularity, both with the number of parade participants and the number of onlookers.

The Santa Claus Parade of Lights culminates with a tree lighting ceremony at Victoria Park and a chance for children to whisper Christmas lists to Santa Claus.

Hants West MLA Chuck Porter was one of several dignitaries on hand for the event, and urged residents to support local this holiday season.

“Think about shopping at home. We don't talk about that a whole lot. We've got a great downtown, we've got a great Wentworth Road, West Hants,” said Porter. “There's lots of great shops to shop in around home here too. Be sure to check that out this Christmas season and help our local businesses... It keeps our community going.”
