WINDSOR, N.S. — It's time to dig out your ugliest Christmas clothing and get ready for some laughs.
Kathy Johnston-Isenor, the owner of Fitness Junkies, is hoping to see lots of people wearing horrendous outfits at this year’s Ugly Christmas Pyjama Run.
The fundraising event takes place Dec. 1 at 9 a.m. at the Windsor waterfront. Participants will walk, run, or push strollers along the causeway route, sharing laughs along the way.
“We’re taking a fun approach to fitness. Yes, we’re encouraging people to be physically active but we’re also encouraging people to laugh along the way,” said Johnston-Isenor.
It’s the fourth year for the event, which is slowly but surely growing in popularity.
“When you think about all of the years we’ve gotten Christmas pyjamas — none of them are exactly attractive. So when you put them on and bring them out into the daylight hours, everybody has a good giggle,” she said.
“We want the community to come together and support everybody in our community. We encourage everybody to come out, don your Christmas attire and have a hoot.”
The event serves as a fundraiser for Family Resource Centre. There is no cost to participate; it’s by donation.
“So if you have $2, you can come; if you have $20 you can come. We’re just really hoping that people spread the holiday cheer and give to our families in the community,” said Johnston-Isenor.
The fitness instructor said they raised $300 last year and they have their sights set on reaching $400 this year. She said the more they raise, the more they can help families in need.
“This is near and dear to my heart,” she said. “The Family Resource Centre does such amazing work in our community. It’s a great way to pick one avenue where they in turn give families what they really desperately need, not what they want but what they need: food, diapers, things like that that we sometimes take for granted.”
The event will start and wrap up at the Pisiquid Canoe Club.
