KENTVILLE, NS – A new take on the elf craze has hit Kentville: Elf on the Bookshelf.
Kentville Library clerk Debbie Longley has posed as the famous elf toy while reading atop a library shelf in the new building.
Colleague Lynn Manning was struck with the idea after Longley dressed up as an elf for the library’s Tiny Tales Dec. 13, a weekly event where a reading is held for kids ages two to five.
The photo has been posted to Facebook and shared to the library’s page and website, and has already drawn lots of likes and comments online and in person.
“I’d dressed up as an elf for Tiny Tales, and asked the kids if they recognized what I was. Most said an elf, and a few said Elf on the Shelf,” said Longley.
“After that, Lynn got the idea to take a photo of me on the shelf.”
The library’s new location opened Nov. 23, and plenty of readings and other events have already been underway inside its new and improved space.
This is but one of the ways the library’s staff is celebrating and having fun in the new space.
This is also Longley’s first foray into the elf phenomenon that has swept the Christmas season in recent years.
“It’s the humour, you know? We have fun here. It’s an awesome space, and this was another way to celebrate that,” said Longley.
