Windsor’s Mike Murley picks up another Juno Award

OTTAWA ONT – Musician Mike Murley, who hails from Windsor, picked up another Juno Award recently with the four-man band Metalwood.

The group won Jazz Album of the Year 20 years after their Juno Award winning debut and 14 years since their last release.
With Murley on saxophones, Metalwood also features Brad Turner Chris Tarry and Ian Froman. The group also has five Juno nominations and a slate of international awards.
Murley’s first Juno win was back in 1991 and he’s picked up a total of eight. Born in Truro, he grew up in Windsor and flourished in the high school band program led by Brian Johnston.
He remembers in Grade 7 and 8, traveling to Toronto for national band festivals and being inspired to become a jazz player.
Murley still vacations on the Bay of Fundy each summer.
