OpenAI and Reddit partner in data licensing, advertising

OpenAI They will be using Reddit Content for training its artificial intelligence (AI) models.

In this collaboration, OpenAI will access Reddit’s Data API to bring Reddit content to ChatGPT and new products that deliver real-time, structured and unique content from the social media platform.

“This will enable OpenAI’s AI tools to better understand Reddit content and visualize recent topics in particular,” the post says.

In another part of the partnership, Reddit is building on OpenAI’s platform of AI models to bring new AI-powered features to Reddit users and moderators.

Additionally, OpenAI will advertise on Reddit, according to the post.

“Reddit is one of the web’s largest open archives of authentic, relevant and always up-to-date human conversations about anything and everything.” Steve Huffman, co-founder and CEO of Reddit, said in the post. “Adding it to ChatGPT reinforces our belief in the connected web, helping people find what they’re looking for, and helping new viewers discover community on Reddit.”

Brad LightcapOpenAI’s chief operating officer added in the post: “We are excited to partner with Reddit to enhance ChatGPT with exclusive timely and relevant information, and explore the possibilities of enhancing the Reddit experience with AI-powered features.”

This notice follows an agreement between Google and Reddit in which Google is permitted to use Reddit Content to train its AI models.

In March, it was reported that Reddit received a letter from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding data licensing practices related to the training of AI systems.

The letter told Reddit that the FTC’s staff is conducting a public investigation focused on the company’s sale, licensing, or sharing of user-generated content with third parties for the purpose of training AI models.

Reddit said in a filing at the time that it was still in the “early stages” of data licensing efforts and that such efforts were in line with its values ​​and respected the rights of its users.
