A Houston man who disappeared eight years ago as a teenager was sleeping in front of a local church, police said.

Rudolph “Rudy” Farias IV has been missing since March 6, 2015, according to a missing persons flyer posted by the Texas Missing Persons Center.

On June 29, the Houston Police Department received a call for service, responded to a church in East Houston and later confirmed the man was Farias, according to a department spokeswoman.

It’s unclear where Farias has been for years, and officials haven’t provided additional details about his past whereabouts or what led to the call to reunite him with his family.

He is “receiving the care he needs to get over his trauma,” his mother, Janie Santana, said in a statement to the family.

Farias was noncommunicable and could not be contacted by his family, the report said.

He was found by a good Samaritan who called 911, the family statement said, adding that there was no other information in his case.

The Houston Fire Department responded to the scene at the request of police, Houston Fire Chief Sam Pena told CNN. When they arrived, Farias’ mother was also there, Peena said.

Peña said crews evaluated Farias, but he refused to be taken to the hospital. Farias’ mother signed a form refusing her son’s transportation, he said. At that point, Farias was left with family and police, Peena said.

When he was initially found, Farias was in possession of an item identifying a family member, police said. That family member was called and his mother arrived at the scene, according to police.

The Texas Center for Missing Persons would not comment on the circumstances surrounding Farias’ discovery, telling CNN only that its focus is on the missing person and their family.

“Our mission is to continue to support our families whose loved ones have gone missing,” Melissa Rangel told CNN on Monday. “Rudy Farias has been missing for eight years and is now safe. We at the Texas Center for Missing Persons continue to support our families through reunification, and their We want to continue to support families through healing and hope when loved ones go missing.

Farias, then 17, was walking her two dogs in northwest Houston when she disappeared. CNN affiliate KHOU reported.

Farias’ whereabouts remained unclear for the past eight years. In September 2018, police received a tip from family that Farias was found sleeping behind a family member’s home, according to police.

As stated therein National Center for Missing and Exploited ChildrenBy 2022, 360,000 reports of missing children have been provided to the FBI – which may include duplicates.

The police department’s missing persons unit is interested in interviewing Farias and her family, but was unable to conduct those interviews as of Monday morning, a spokeswoman said.

Investigators have scheduled an interview with Farias for Wednesday, police said. The case is still under investigation.
