On Aug. 26, the Rockies blanked the East Hants Expos 8-0 in a game called after five innings due to the seven-run rule. Justin Schofield struck out 12 batters.
The Rockies plated three runs in the first inning on three base hits and a walk, and added two more runs in the third on a pair of base hits before scoring two more in the fourth. They scored their seventh and final run in the fifth inning.
The East Hants Charros, with one loss, were forced to play back-to-back games Friday evening.
The Charros advanced to play on Aug. 27 with a pair of wins. They eliminated Murphy’s Fish and Chips by a score of 8-0 in another game called after five innings due to the seven-run rule.
Jeff McNeil blasted two triples and scored three runs while Darcy Gillis added a triple and a single. Randy Frame pitched the win and allowed only two hits.
In a much closer game, the Charros eliminated the Brookfield Elks. They registered a 7-5 win in what was a see-saw battle.
McNeil tripled again for the Charros and scored two runs while Brendan Walker tripled and singled and Matt Dillion showed his power with a shot over the fence. Frame went the distance again for the Charros.
Earlier, the Charros defeated the Indian Brook Hawkeyes 7-4. As it was the Hawkeyes' second loss of the tournament – they fell 3-2 in their first game to Brookfield – they were eliminated from the tournament.
In addition to the Pepperjacks-Rockies game, the Charros and East Hants Expos will play another elimination game at 9 a.m. The loser of the Pepperjacks-Rockies game will play the winner of the Charros-Expos match at 11 a.m., while the winner of the Pepperjacks-Rockies game will advance to the 1 p.m. championship game.
