The Knights led the first game 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh when the Gateways took advantage of a costly Knights error and a base hit to tie the game.
Windsor went back on top in their half of the ninth inning on a Yarmouth error before a double and a couple of base hits by the Gateways gave them a 3-2 win.
Dave Swindall pitched a complete game in suffering the loss for Windsor.
"Swindall had excellent command of his pitches throughout the game and suffered a tough loss,” said playing coach Paul Humphreys following the doubleheader.
The second game on Sunday saw an identical 3-2 win for the Gateways. This time, however, it occurred in eight innings. Yarmouth won on a walk-off home run.
The Knights loaded the bases in their half of the eighth inning on three straight base hits but could not come up with the clutch hit to go in front.
Jason Hanes pitched the distance for Windsor and he and Derek Hart both collected RBI doubles in the losing cause.
It has been an exceptionally busy summer for all Hants County teams. Following are some of the highlights from the weekend games.
Blue Jays versus Albions
In the first game of a doubleheader between the Noel Road Blue Jays and the Pictou County Albions, the Hants county team base hit the Albions to death.
They won 14-6 on July 5, with Noel Road's Judson Wiseman connecting for a bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning. Sean Marshall pitched the win.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Albions were up 3-1 after four innings before the Jays scored twice in the fifth inning to tie the game.
The Albions won it in their home half of the seventh inning on a walk, a bunt single, a wild pitch and a base hit.
Wiseman made the defensive play of the game for the Blue Jays as he went to the warning track and made a spectacular over the shoulder catch.
Braves versus Schooners
The Kennetcook Braves went 1-3 on the weekend. They lost a pair to the Shelburne Schooners by scores of 11-1 and 8-2. They defeated the Pictou County Royals 6-4, scoring all six of their runs in the second inning and getting a solid pitching performance from Tyler Singer, who gave up only three hits. Brian Hamilton had a two-run double and Chad Bartlett added a two-run single.
The Braves could not explain their second game loss to the Royals, however, as they were solidly defeated 15-1.
When asked about the dramatic difference in the two games, Singer, the Braves' playing coach said, "the heat likely played a role as did the fact we only have a thre2-man pitching staff.”
Shamrocks versus Schooners
The Hantsport Shamrocks collected a pair of win over the Shelburne Schooners on the weekend.
The Shammies took the doubleheader with scores of 9-2 and 11-1.
In the 11-1 victory, Adrian Lloy and his brother Matt Lloy plus Chad Monroe all had two RBIs. Roland Provencal, Sean Croft, Mike King and Jed Martin each had one RBI. David Pilat pitched the win.
Taylor Welch pitched the 9-2 win for the Shamrocks. Croft and Provencal both registered two RBIs, while King, Matt Lloy, Deron Moores and Matt Russell each had one RBI.
