Both King’s-Edgehill School and Avon View High School’s boys Division I soccer teams finished 2-1 at an invitational soccer tournament hosted by KES this past weekend.
The Avalanche was blanked 1-0 by the host school to open the tournament Sept. 20 thanks to a goal by Juan Miguel Bechelany. Neil MacQuarrie recorded the shutout.
Avon View then blanked Digby Regional in their second game by a count of 4-0. Lucas Hazel, Justin Crossley, Drew Davidson, and Austin Ledson scored the Avalanche goals with Mackenzie Bachman garnering the shutout.
Kings-Edgehill then lowered the boom on Digby 3-1, with Liam Hogan, Michael Jachimowicz, and Bechelany scoring the goals. KES were then blanked 3-0 by Cobequid Education Centre while Avon View blanked Bridgetown 3-0 in their final game.
KES will host Horton High School in regular league play Thursday, Sept. 26 on Jakeman Field.
Prior to their 1-0 encounter in tournament play, Kings opened their season with a 3-2 win over Avon View after falling behind early 2-0. Following a missed penalty kick, Jachimowicz, the KES captain, scored on a dipping free kick.
“The brute strength and physical play of Jabes Benedict and Adrian Danquah opened the field up for Kings,” said KES Head Coach Paul MacInnis following the game.
Twenty minutes into the second half, Cody Ettinger scored a sensational goal that found the back of the AVHS net.
Avon View then applied pressure, trying to score the go-ahead goal before KES regrouped and Alex Taylor scored the game winner.
Avon View will play their next home game Oct. 2 against Parkview High from Bridgewater.
