Volunteer and Donate Opportunities in WNC Counties Affected by Helen

Chincare Cares

Sinclair Cares: Sinclair has partnered with The Salvation Army for Hurricane Helen relief. Your donation will help The Salvation Army continue to provide food, clean water and much-needed assistance to residents and first responders on the ground. Sinclair will donate up to $50,000 of the first $50,000 raised through the organization. www.sinclaircares.com.

Buncombe District

Buncombe County Government Anyone interested in making donations, equipment, or questions about specific needs is asked to email [email protected].

The following local nonprofits also accept financial donations:

The Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministries (ABCCM) The medical clinic accepts drug donations Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Acceptable ingredients are sealed, prepared bottles that do not expire and require no refrigeration, no controlled substances or cancer drugs.

At this time ABCCM is primary healthcare for all adults.

Manna Food Bank WNC Launches Critical Donations and Distribution Initiative at Farmers Market Donations will be accepted Oct. 2-5 from 8 a.m. to noon. Materials Required:

  • Shelf-stable food (pop-top cans are preferred, no can opener required)
  • Bottled water
  • Infant and toddler formula and food
  • Diapers

Haywood County

The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office He says donations can be dropped off at Woodland Baptist Church, 545 Crabtree RoadWaynesville.Click here for a list of supplies and information on volunteering.

In CondonDonations are accepted behind the Town Hall (85 Summer Street). Donations will be transferred to IP Sports Complex for distribution. Materials needed include:

  • Non-perishable food and pop-top cans
  • Water (gallon jugs)
  • Baby formula, diapers, wipes
  • Pet food
  • Toiletries (toothpaste, deodorant)
  • First aid supplies
  • Feminine products
  • Soap, sanitizer, paper towel, cleaning supplies
  • New socks and underwear
  • Batteries (AA, C, D)
  • Rope and tarps
  • Gloves (nitrile, latex, leather)
  • Shovels
  • Bar and chain oil
  • Small propane tanks

Henderson County

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is asking donors to use the newly established donation drop-off site at 118 McAbee Court, Flat Rock, NC.

HCSO saidDrop off donated items at the distribution center on McAbee CourtAndThe other six source sites are not directly presentHenderson County has staff at the distribution center who will accept donations and distribute them to six other resource sites for the public to pick up.

McAbee Court is limited to donation drop-offs.

While the site does not accept perishable food or new/used clothing, non-perishable food items such as bottled water, toiletries and baby formula are accepted.

In addition, Henderson County launched aHealth Check Status MapforMissing contacts. The map shows people whose location and security are unknown in red, while blue dots show established contacts.

Check the map to see if you are listed or know where someone is on this map. Call Henderson County at (828) 771-6670 with updates on anyone’s condition.

McDowell County

For those who want to help with the recovery efforts, ways to contribute are listed below:

Volunteer Tax:To learn how you can help, call our Citizen Volunteer Coordinator at (828) 559-9731.

Donation Drop Point:Donations of essential items can be made to the Universal Advanced Manufacturing Center located at 634 College Drive, Marion, NC, the following are acceptable items:

  • Bottled water
  • Baby products (diapers, wipes, etc.)
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Drop off time is 8:00 am to 6:00 pm daily.

Polk County

For those who wish to make donations in Polk County and are unable to do so physically, donations and items can now be sent via Tryon International at 4066 Pea Ridge Road, Mill Spring, NC.

Those interested in funding recovery efforts can write a check to the Green River Foundation and send it to the address above with “Hurricane Helen Relief” in the memo.

Polk, Rutherford, Henderson and Buncombe Counties in NC and Spartanburg County 100% of donations go to relief efforts, SC 100% contributions are tax deductible.

Transylvania District

The sheriff’s office says Anchor Baptist Coordinates volunteer efforts and accepts donations to support those efforts. Contact Anchor Baptist directly with donations or volunteer availability. They coordinate food, water, and other supplies to help distribute common resources.
