From attending school plays to covering sporting events, editor Carole Morris-Underhill was busy in 2012. Here are some of her favourite photos from the year.

Windsor firefighters doused hotspots as they searched through the remains of a house in Three Mile Plains in the wee morning hours of May 31. While they couldn’t save the house — fire had reached the roof whey they arrived at the scene — they did prevent the fire from spreading to the three other buildings on the property. 1 width:500px;height:363px

Jed Martin and his teammates, the Hantsport Shamrocks, pat the backs of the Pictou County Albions following the hometown team’s 6-2 loss in the Nova Scotia Intermediate AAA championship game.

Ryan Clarke made it home safe just in the nick of time during the Knights' third game of the provincial Intermediate AAA play downs. They beat the Halifax Outlaws 5-1.

Avon View Avalanche quarterback Cory Whitney carried the ball seven times for 65 yards during the Sept. 30 game against Dr. John Hugh Gillis High School. Although AVHS lost most games during the season, they always put up a good fight.

Tyler Waaler, with King's-Edgehill School's 254 Cadet Corps, performed the Last Post, signalling two minutes of silence during Windsor's well-attended Remembrance Day ceremony Nov. 11.

Captain Francis Nickerson, of Truro, fired Charlotte — a three-pound field cannon — during a sunset ceremony at Fort Edward National Historic Site. The military encampment in Windsor ran from July 13-15.

Renowned Elvis impersonator Thane Dunn, from Moncton, New Brunswick, shook, shimmied and playfully joked his way through Remembering Elvis Sept. 8. The near sell-out show at Mermaid Theatre featured timeless classics as well as some gospel favourites.

Olivia Parker and Emily Walker, of Ellershouse, embraced after paddling in their first regatta. The best friends may have finished last, but they pumped up the crowd with their enthusiasm. Halifax’s David Tilley piloted his pumpkin, Gourdinstein, to victory, being the first to make it across Lake Pisiquid in the people-powered pumpkin division during the 14th annual Windsor-West Hants Pumpkin Regatta.

Students of Emily Gore School of Dance took to the stage June 2 to perform Alice in Wonderland. Kidance 1 performed the Pool of Tears routine during the 2 p.m. showing. Pictured are Vaida Babis and Madison Swinamer. The group of tiny tots had the audience in stitches with their antics, which included waving to family members and pulling funny faces.

Local goaltender Jesse Lawrence played with the puck while a fight ensued near the net. The Oct. 28 game against the Clare Lions was a rough one, with about 80 penalty minutes being called. Lawrence was between the pipes for the win, stopping 27 of 28 shots on goal.
