Volunteers celebrated throughout Windsor, West Hants

BROOKLYN, N.S. — Nearly 100 people attended the Brooklyn Civic Centre to celebrate and recognize the hard work of local volunteers in Windsor and West Hants on April 16, 2018.

The banquet was held in conjunction with Volunteer Week, which runs from April 15-22. 

Dozens of volunteers of all ages received gifts and certificates from members of Windsor and West Hants councils, and were thanked for their service. 

Recipients were nominated by organizations and NGO’s in the community as well as members of the public. 

Windsor Mayor Anna Allen and West Hants Warden Abraham Zebian gave remarks about the volunteers in the community before the awards were handed out, saying that the way of life in the area simply wouldn’t be possible without them.

Bonnie Smith received the Judy Fry Memorial Volunteer Award, Windsor’s representative award, and Roseanna Boyd receives the Municipality of West Hants provincial representative volunteer award.

Lisa Bower, owner of Lisa’s Café in Windsor and Debbie McNutt, owner of Avon Valley Variety received the Business Community Appreciation Award.
